Nat had been an army medic in the war and when it was time to go home to America, he instead decided to stay in England. He had no one waiting for him back home anyway. Not that he would be more free in this country than America, but at least he could start over easier in England.
It didn't take long for him to get a job at a mental hospital, happy to have found a man with medical knowledge and experience. Since many of their patients were veterans, the fact that he was one himself was also looked upon favourable.
Within his first week, he had befriended most of the staff and was already liked by many of the patients. This was partly due to the fact that he was listening to them and treated them like people. What no one knew was that he had also begun to help some of them in a way only he could, by slowly healing them.
Healing mental wounds was considerably more difficult than physical ones, but it was possible for him to do so. Little by little, some of the patients got better. Ones that had not shown improvement before. Seeing that always made him happy.
Having worked there for some time, a new patient arrived. One he shared more with than he could imagine. As usual when a new patient arrived outside his shift, Nat went to present himself to the new arrival. "Hello, Mr Xavier. I'm Nathanael, but you can call me Nat, and I'm one of the nurses here." Nat held out his hand, offering it to Charles in case he wished to shake it. If not, that was fine. If yes, then Nat would make a quick check of the man, since he needed skin contact to use his gift. He wouldn't do any healing now, just check what might be needed to heal.
