I totally broship Billy Lee and Ben Tallmadge okay. Ben and General Washington seem to be the only two who genuinely care about Billy’s comfort and well-being.
Occasions where we see proof of this:
Washington seeking Billy Lee’s counsel on important matters such as the sparing of execution of Major Hewlett. His Excellency says that he trusts Billy Lee with his life and values his opinion.
At Arnold’s party, Ben was astute enough to pick up on Billy Lee’s discomfort in the “new” clothes. Not only did he notice, he offers to watch Washington so that Billy Lee can make his clothes a touch more comfortable. The fact that Tallmage is shown to care in a time period where slaves didn’t get a whole lot of respect, will never cease to impress me.
Plus Don’t forget:
Billy Lee turning to Ben in confidence when he feels like the General is making a genuinely grave decisions like giving General Lee command of half the army before the battle of Monmouth. He was concerned enough to seek out someone he knows could be similarly trusted with Washington’s life.
