So now that marijuana has been legalized in some states I feel as though an opinion on my part should be shared. I think many potential readers know my opinion on alcohol within society and I do have a similar view on pot. I feel that marijuana (and alcohol when used as a drug) are immoral because they are derogatory to society. What I do feel is that if people are going to be pot users than the government may as well control it the best that they can. With this being said, tobacco regulation is on the rise and it would seem as though smoking and tobacco use will be either outlawed  or die out on it's own in the not-too distant future, for this reason legalization may have come at a bad time.Â
Legalization will give governments a new and fairly large source of income which they can use for social programs, much of which will likely go towards anti-drug campaigns and treatment for users. This could be good but my fear is that the criminals will just become the businessmen. This can be good because it will get them out of illegal activity but many have histories which could follow them.
I do think  that it should be up to the individual to decide what they want to do with themselves but I also feel that the individual should avoid such substances. I do not know the details of the new laws but I feel that on private property individuals should be allowed to use marijuana if they wish as with alcohol. I do not think people should drive while impaired from any substance nor use in public spaces.
There are worse things for individuals and society than marijuana which are currently legal so I feel that as long as those things are allowed then so should marijuana. If the government can make some money off of something that people would use anyway then they may as well. My opinion is muddied because as much as I don't want people to use any non-medical drug I feel that as long as alcohol and tobacco are allowed then so should pot.
