Hearing Olivia call out from the top of the stairs once more, you let out a heavy sigh and pushed yourself off of the couch with some effort. Tessa was hot on your heels, wary of danger, as you made your way up the stairs, floorboards creaking under your weight. This was already the fifth time sheâd called for you in the hour since youâd put her to bed, and you wanted to be mad. In fact, you could feel the frustration building as you climbed the steps. However, as soon as you saw your little girl, all of the anger and frustration washed away.
She was standing at the top of the stairs, arms clutching the teddy bear that her daddy had gotten her, big tears rolling down her pink cheeks. Her sobs were silent, her little body shaking as she held one arm out to you. She was wearing one of her daddyâs shirts, and it was much too big on her, falling down past her knees. You had a feeling you knew what the problem was, but that didnât stop your heart from splintering into a million pieces at the sight of her so upset.
You quickly scooped her up in your arms carefully and cradled her against your chest as best you could, making your way back to her room. Nudging the door to her room open with your foot, you kept stroking her hair gently as you laid her down in her bed. Though she had upgraded to a âbig girl bedâ when she turned four, it was still cramped as you got in next to her, letting her cuddle up to you. She continued to cry, and you let her, her tears soaking into your shirt.
After a few minutes, you brushed your thumb across her cheeks as you gently lifted her chin so she was looking at you, âWhy are you so sad, lovie?â
The question started the waterworks again (which you had expected), and it took a while for her to choke out between sobs, âI-I m-mi-iss Daddy!â
Your suspicions had been right. You knew sheâd been missing her dad - you both were missing him. Itâd been a while since heâd gotten some time off between filming, and it was hard not having him home, especially this time around. Olivia was a good kid, she really was. But she often started acting up when the missing got too much⌠which explained the constant getting out of bed. It also explained when, earlier in the night, sheâd given you the puppy dog eyes - the same ones her dad had - as she asked if she could âpretty please wear daddyâs shirt tonight.â It was something that she did sometimes when he was away.
âOh, baby,â you cooed, pushing the hair that was sticking to her cheeks off of her face, âI know. I miss him, too. But Daddyâs going to be home so so soon, I promise.â
Giving you those eyes once again, she looked up at you and sniffled, âC-can we call Daddy?â
You wanted to say no. You knew Tom was busy with filming, and the faster he shot the movie, the sooner he could come home. And you tried to not to call him during the middle of his day unless it was something important. You wanted to say no, you really did. But with those big brown eyes of hers staring up at you, you just couldnât. Letting out a quiet sigh, you nodded, âWe can try, baby. But Daddy might be working, I donât know if he can talk.â This seemed to appease her, though, and she sniffled a few more times but snuggled into your side as you took out your phone.
â
It was still early afternoon for Tom. Theyâd been shooting since the sun had come up, but there were still several hours left in the day. He sighed as he leaned against the wall, trying to listen to what the director was saying. He really wanted - needed - a break, but he knew he wasnât going to get one soon. He loved his job, but it got to be really hard. There were so many long days, and it was hard being away from his girls for so long. Heâd done it before, but it never got any easier.
A buzzing in his pocket brought him out of his head. At the first buzz, he ignored it, thinking it was just a text. But then as the buzzing continued, as if getting a call, he slipped his phone out of his pocket. His wifeâs name was on screen, causing him to get anxious. She typically wouldnât call in the middle of one of his shooting days unless it was something important.
Without saying a word, Tom slipped out of the group of people gathered and made his way to his trailer, closing the door behind him. It was a FaceTime call, which seemed kind of unusual, but he answered anyway, eyes wide as he blurted out, âY/N? Is everything okay?â
His wifeâs face filled the screen, guilt written all over it as she started explaining, âIâm so sorry, I know I shouldnât be calling. But someone is having a really tough night and she gave me the puppy eyes and I just couldnât say no.â
At that moment, his daughterâs faced popped into frame at the bottom of the screen, âDaddy!â
She had a smile on her face, but he could see how red and puffy her eyes were, and her little hiccups and sniffles echoed through the speakers. He knew this is what she was like after a hard cry, and the thought of it made his heart ache. Tom gave his daughter a smile, âHi, Liv! Are you alright, princess?â
Oliviaâs smile faltered as she lifted her little shoulders into a shrug, still sniffling a little. Her eyes looked away from the screen as she mumbled out, âI miss you, Daddy. Want you home.â
If he thought his heart was aching before, it broke into pieces now. He knew his little girl missed him all the time, and he missed her and his wife more than anything but hearing her say it out loud broke his heart. He frowned, pushing back the tears that immediately formed in his eyes, âI miss you, too, sweets. More than anything. But you know what?â
âWhat?â she whispered, her brown eyes meeting his through the screen.
âIâll be home soon, darlin. Iâll be home on Sunday, so itâs just one week,â he replied, giving her a smile.
âReally?â
âYes, really, princess. And it wonât seem like Iâve been gone for too long. Do you remember the last time I was gone for work? I taught you that song to help you go to sleep when Iâm not home?â Tom asked, wishing he could be there to dry the tears off of his daughterâs cheeks.
Her button nose scrunched up, perfect little lips pursed in thought for a second. After a moment she nodded, a few strands of her hair falling into her face, âThink so.â
Tom smiled as his wife was quick to push Oliviaâs hair out of her face. He wanted more than anything to be with them right now, holding his family in his arms. âYeah?â he asked, âThink you can remember to sing it when you canât sleep till I get home?â
His little girl sighed, nodding her head again, âI guess so, Daddy.â It always amazed him how much of a little grown-up she was at only four and a half years old. She was always full of life and could be so sassy; she had her own little quips in response to everything, not to mention, she had the best imagination.
He watched silently, his chin in his palm as Olivia leaned up to Y/N and whispered something to her. The corners of his lips curved up slightly as he watched his two favorite people on the planet interact. He missed them every single day he was away, and if this was all he got, he would savor it as much as he could.
âDaddy?â Olivia asked, turning the puppy dog eyes sheâd learned from him back onto him, âYou sing the song now?â
Biting his lip, Tom contemplated her request; heâd been receiving several texts asking where heâd gone, but knowing just how upset sheâd been, he agreed, âSure, Livvy. But then Daddy has to go back to work, and you have to go to sleep, okay? You gotta be good for Mummy.â
She brightened up a little at this, and reached for something behind the camera. When she leaned back, she was holding the teddy bear heâd gotten her one of the first times heâd had to leave after she was born. He watched the way she snuggled against Y/Nâs side to get comfortable and then looked to the screen expectantly.
Tom was not much of a singer. He wasnât super great at it, and he hated to do it in front of other people. His daughter and wife were the only exceptions. When Olivia was a baby, he would sing to her to get her to sleep, and it always worked. The last time he came back after being away, Y/N told him how much trouble sheâd had getting to sleep when he was gone. At that moment, he decided heâd teach Olivia the lullaby he used to sing to her when she was a baby.
Anyhow, when Tom started singing, Oliviaâs eyes fell shut as she tugged her blanket into her lap with the teddy bear. He couldnât help but smile as he sang, his eyes meeting his wifeâs through the screen. Tom only stopped when Oliviaâs soft snores came through the speakers, which didnât take long with how exhausted she was from crying.
Ever so carefully, his wife slipped out from under his daughter and tucked her, closing her bedroom door behind her. She made her way down the hall to the master bedroom so as to not wake Olivia up again. Y/N let out a sigh as she collapsed into bed, âIâm sorry, Tommy. I know I shouldnât have called, but she was just inconsolable. Thank you so much.â
âItâs okay, love,â Tom replied, giving her a gentle smile. He knew how tough being home by herself was for her, especially now. âAre you okay?â he asked, concern etching Into his features.
She nodded, rubbing a hand over her face, âYeah, Iâm fine. Just⌠just tired. I forgot how tiring it is to be pregnant.â Her hand brushed over the small bump that hadnât been there when heâd left a while ago. Theyâd only found out just before he had to leave, and it killed him to be missing out on it.
He frowned a little, âIâm sure. But youâre doing so great, love. And Iâll be home soon. On Sunday.â
This brought a smile to her face, âI love you, Tom. I canât wait for you to be home.â
âMe too, love. Canât wait to see all of my babies. I love you all. See you soon.â

Your brother had called you shortly after youâd gotten home from work, wondering if you could watch his daughter - your niece - for a while. His wife was out of town for the week, and something urgent came up at work. You immediately agreed, wanting to help out in any way possible, as well as see Harper, but you also let your brother know that Tom was home. The two of you had been dating for a while and were now living together, but somehow, even though heâd met most of your family, heâd never met your niece. Even though it was supposed to be your date night, Tom was excited to help out; he loved kids and really wanted to meet Harper since you talked about her nonstop.
âSheâs probably going to be shy at first,â you told Tom as the two of you raced around trying to clean up a little and make the apartment safe for the three-year-old.
âBabe, kids love me! Iâm Spider-Man, itâll be fine!â Tom protested, shaking his head as he folded a blanket and placed it over the back of the couch neatly.
Laughing, you nodded, âI know kids love you, baby. And I know itâll be fine; sheâs just gonna be shy at first.â
Before Tom could say anything else, there was a knock on the door, effectively ending your conversation. Tidying up a few more things, you quickly made your way over to the door, throwing it open to find your brother and niece, âHey guys!â
âHey, Y/N, thank you so much,â your brother spoke. He looked pretty frazzled as he turned to his daughter in his arms, âHarper, youâre going to hang out with Auntie and her friend while Daddy goes to work for a little bit, okay? Youâre going to have so much fun, I love you, sweetie!â He quickly passed Harper off to you, handing Tom a bag full of stuff she might need, âHereâs a bunch of toys she likes, and sheâll eat pretty much anything. Iâll pick her up later tonight, thanks again, guys.â
After the door closed, you turned to your niece in your arms, giving her a huge smile, âHey, bug! Are you ready to have some fun?â Harper gave a hesitant nod a moment later, glancing away from you to look at Tom who was watching the two of you with a smile. She lifted a hand, pointing at Tom with a questioning look, not saying. âThatâs my friend Tom, can you say hi?â
Her head shook from side to side, burrowing into your shoulder causing you to laugh a little and give Tom a pointed look, knowing that you were right. Tom shrugged, giving her another smile as he opened the bag that your brother had handed him, âCan I see what kind of toys you have in here, Harper?â She didnât reply but lifted her head to watch as he moved to sit on the carpet in the living room.
You set Harper down on the ground, and she immediately went to hide behind your leg, âCâmon, bug. Letâs play!â She followed behind you slowly as you moved to sit on the ground across from Tom. After a moment, Harper sat down in your lap, watching Tom closely as he pulled out some of her toys.
Tom pulled out toy after toy that was princess themed, along with a baby doll or two. Finally, he found some superhero toys that had been packed at the bottom of the bag. There was Captain America, Iron Man, and of course, Spider-Man. A smile grew on Tomâs face, and he looked up at Harper in excitement, âWhoa! I love superheroes! Which one is your favorite?â Youâd actually been the one to get her the superhero toys, knowing how much youâd loved superheroes when you were younger, but you werenât about to tell Tom that.
Harper quickly got out of your lap, making her way over to Tom as she picked Captain America up off of the ground, her voice small as she spoke, âThis.â She was still being shy, but you could tell that she was coming out of her shell a little bit.
âAw man,â Tom stuck his bottom lip out in a pout, âWhat about Spider-Man? Heâs my favorite.â Her little nose scrunched up, head shaking from side to side in reply. Tom feigned hurt, placing his hand over his chest dramatically, âWhat do you mean?!â
âNuh uh. Capâin Merica is better,â she stated plainly, causing you to laugh behind your hand as you watched the two of them interact.
Another dramatic huff and then a sigh passed Tomâs lips, âAlright, alright. Will you play with me, at least?â Harper paused, glancing back at you as if for permission and you nodded with a smile, so she nodded in reply. âAwesome!â Tom exclaimed, picking up the Spider-Man toy.
Half an hour later, the two of them were playing as if theyâd been friends forever. You could feel your heart swell in your chest as you watched them play together. Tom with kids always made you feel a certain type of way, but to see him with a child you loved so much made you feel so happy. You couldnât help but to imagine him with your kid someday.
In the middle of acting something out with Tom, Harper turned to you and let out a dramatic sigh, âAuntie Y/N, Iâm soooo hungry.â
You laughed a little, shaking your head with a smile, âDo you want dinner, Harper?â
She nodded enthusiastically as her eyes went wide, âNuggets?â
âIâll see what I can find, love,â you replied as you tousled her hair and stood up, leaning over to press a kiss to Tomâs head. You ran your fingers through his hair once, âYou okay with her?â
He smiled and tilted his head back to kiss your cheek, âYeah, weâll be fine. Right, Harper?â
âYeah!â
âOkay, great!â Booping Harperâs nose gently, you pressed another quick kiss to Tomâs lips before walking off to the kitchen.
As soon as you were gone, Harper turned to Tom with big eyes, tilting her head a little, âAre you in love with Auntie?â
Tom laughed a little, furrowing his eyebrows as he wondered where that had come from, âWhereâd you learn that, hon?â
She shrugged her shoulders, sticking her bottom lip out, âLike my mummy and daddy love each other.â
Giving in, Tom nodded with another laugh, âYes, I love your Auntie Y/N so much. I want to marry her someday, just like your mummy and daddy are.â Harper gasped, her mouth dropping open, and Tom realized that heâd just told a three-year-old that he wanted to marry his girlfriend, and he was pretty sure that three-year-olds were not the best secret keepers, âBut you canât tell her, okay? Itâs a secret, I want to surprise her!â
Excited at the prospect of a secret, Harper nodded, âOkay!â Apparently, that was enough for her as she got back to playing, trying to get Tom to play with her again.
Not long later, dinner was finally ready, but when you called for them to come eat, there was no response. Wandering back into the living room, you found the two of sitting on the floor, teacups in hand and tiaras on their heads. Without saying anything, you quickly snapped a few pictures of the two of them with a huge smile on your face.
Once you had the pictures, you spoke up again, âDinnerâs ready, guys!â Harper immediately jumped up without a second thought, running towards the kitchen, leaving Tom sitting there in his tiara. You laughed as Tom stood up, teasing him, âWell hey there, princess.â
Tomâs eyes rolled but he grinned, sliding his arms around your waist as he pulled you into him, âYeah, yeahhh.â Leaning down, Tomâs nose brushed against yours, lips almost pressed against yours, until he was cut off by a small voice.
âCâmon, câmon! Iâm hungryyyy!â
After dinner was over, you knew it wouldnât be long until your brother would be back to pick Harper up, so you let her choose a movie to watch. It took a while, but she finally decided on Finding Dory and crawled up onto the couch. âWanna sit with me?â You asked, figuring sheâd want to sit on your lap like she normally did when the two of you watched movies together.
Instead, she surprised you by shaking her head and moving over to the side of the couch Tom was sitting on, âWanna sit with Uncle Tom.â
A surprised, but happy, look took over his face as she got comfortable in his lap and he wrapped an arm around her to keep her safe. He shot you a glance with the biggest grin on his face, and you couldnât help but smile back at him. Harper had managed to fit herself just right into Tomâs lap; legs crossed on top of his as she leaned back against his chest. It was safe to say that your heart had fully melted at the sight.
It wasnât long until your brother showed up to pick Harper up. Tom and Harper were both much too invested in the movie to notice, leaving you to go get the door. You gave your brother a hug, grinning at him, âSeems as though Harperâs found a new best friend.â
The two of you walked into the living room, finding them in the same spot as a few moments before. You paused the movie to get Harperâs attention, and when she turned around to pout, she saw her dad standing there. She quickly launched herself off of Tomâs lap and into your brotherâs arms as he picked her up and hugged her tightly, âDid you have fun, sweetie?â
âYes! Uncle Tom and I played with superheroes and then we played tea party and now weâre watching Finding Dory. Can I come back to play with Auntie Y/N and Uncle Tom again?â The little girl babbled on for a few moments, hugging her dad tightly.
Tom had stood up again and was standing just behind you with his arms around your waist, âYou can come back any time, Harper!â You leaned back into his chest and tilted your head back against his shoulder to look up at him with a smile, pressing a kiss to his jaw lightly.
âMhm!â you echoed, picking the bag of her toys up to hand back to your brother, âYou can come play with us any time, bug.â The little girl cheered before reaching her arms out to you. You grabbed her and hugged her tightly, pressing a kiss to her cheek. She quickly reached out towards Tom next and he took her without a second thought, spinning her around once before passing her back to her dad.
As she got her coat on, Harper was telling her dad stories of what you guys had done all evening, âAnd, Daddy, guess what! Uncle Tom told me that he loves Auntie Y/N.â
âIâm sure he does,â your brother replied with a laugh, opening the door to head out. Glancing up at Tom, you found that his cheeks had tinted a light pink, one of his hands running through his hair out of embarrassment.
âOh! And Uncle Tom said he wants to marry Auntie Y/N, just like you and mummy are married!â Harper exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air.
âOkay, Harper, thatâs nice. Alright, itâs time to go! Bye, guys!â your brother stuttered as he quickly closed the door, making his way out of your apartment with your niece. The door closed and you turned to Tom whose cheeks and ears were now a bright red. He opened his mouth as if to say something, maybe to refute her claim, but nothing came out.
âYou wanna marry me someday?â you asked, a huge smile growing on your face as you slid your arms around Tomâs neck.
He laughed nervously, nodding his head a little bit as his hands came to settle on your waist, âWell, yeah. I- I mean, I hope so.â
You grinned, leaning up on your toes to be eye-level with him, âWell, I want to marry you, too, someday. And have kids of our own.â
He let out a sigh of relief, pecking your lips softly, âThereâs nothing Iâd want more, love.â

She woke up to the first rays of sunlight starting to filter in through the curtains hanging in the window. It was early, and after a late night, she had no reason to be awake. The boy in the bed next to her was still fast asleep (as she should be), and the sheets on his side of the bed had been fumbled with in the middle of the night, exposing his bare chest, which rose and fell with each breath. His soft blond hair fell onto his forehead, his eyelids covering the pretty baby blues that she was already missing after having not seen them all night, his long eyelashes kissing his perfectly sculpted cheeks. His arm was still resting over her waist, as if he had refused to let go of her all night, and one side of his face was pressed into the pillow, a light pink covering his cheeks from the heat of sleeping next to her.
He had never looked so peaceful - she was sure of this - but she just had to run the risk of waking him up by showing him some love, even if he wouldnât respond. Her fingertips slid across his forehead lightly to push his hair out of the way, her lips quickly following suit as she kissed his forehead and then his cheek. The next task was to get out of bed without bothering the boy, which seemed like an unlikely feat. But sure enough, she was able to slip out of his grasp after lifting his arm ever so carefully. The sheets had become even more of a mess after this, so she was quick to gently pull the blankets into place, up over his bare shoulders so he wouldnât get cold without her.
Feeling a bit chilly herself without his body heat next to her, she scanned the room looking for something to slip on while she made breakfast. The wooden flooring was cold against her feet, so a pair of socks went on first, followed by an oversized sweater of his that had been thrown to the ground in a haste the previous night. The second the sweater went over her head, she was engulfed in his comforting scent, and she couldnât help but take in a deep breath, wrapping her arms around her body for a few seconds before padding across the room to the door.
The bedroom door always opened with a creak, and even though she had braced herself for the noise, she couldnât help but cringe as she opened the door slowly. Her eyes immediately traveled across the room to the bed, making sure he was still asleep. He had shifted his positioning now that she was no longer next to him, but he still looked to be fast asleep. A soft breath of relief left her lips as she slipped out, quietly closing the door behind her.
Silence took over the apartment - a stark contrast from a typical day, when music was on a never-ending loop, and the sound of banter often filled the space. She didnât always hate the silence. Quite the contrary, in fact. There were nights where, after the spending a day in the life of his crazy job, all she wanted was to sit, cuddled up with him in silence. However, something about the warm, sunny morning called for a bit of noise to liven things up.
In the kitchen, she pulled back the curtains covering the window, letting some of the sunlight in to warm the dull room. Opening the window just a bit, she took in another deep breath - this time to inhale the fresh air that was flooding into the room. Next on the list to get the morning going was music.
Jack Johnsonâs sweet and soft voice filled the kitchen, making her smile as she stood in the middle of the kitchen, swaying back and forth for a few seconds with her eyes closed. She was sure that his voice was one of the closest things to heaven you could get, and she loved to savor it every chance she got. Finally feeling warmed up and awake, she turned her attention to the task at hand; making breakfast.
Grocery shopping had been done the day before, so there were plenty of options to choose from. However, there was no competition in her mind, when French toast would clearly be the best choice. It was her favorite breakfast food, and because he wasnât awake yet, there was no argument to be made for something else. She knew he also liked it, but just to appease him, she also decided to make eggs and bacon. With some of her favorite music playing in the background, accompanied by the warm sunshine and air spilling in from outside, she was certain this was a perfect way to start the day.
-
Harrison woke up to the feeling of rays of sunshine hitting his chest, filling his body with warmth. Before he even opened his eyes, though, he could tell something was missing, and his arm swung out to the opposite side of the bed in search of his favorite feeling. The sunshine was nice, of course, but nothing was better than the warmth of waking up next to her. Sure enough, his hand brushed against the soft but cold sheets, letting him know that she had been awake for a while. Fingers grasping at the sheets, he let out a tired groan, forcing his eyes open to wake up.
He was disappointed that she wasnât still laying next to him, but the smell of breakfast being made changed his mind. Getting out of bed still seemed like too big of a task, though, and he rolled over, reaching for his phone. There were only a few notifications, and it only took a matter of minutes to click through them all, replying to the few friends who had messaged him.
Sitting up in bed, Harrison surveyed the room to find it an absolute disaster. Clothes had been thrown all over the floor last night, though it hadnât really been very tidy to begin with. He did notice, however, that his sweater was missing from the pile of clothes on the floor, leaving him hoping that she was wearing it right now. With some effort, he hauled himself out of bed, put his glasses on, and wandered around his room for a few moments trying to find something he could wear downstairs. Harrison finally gave up and settled for only a pair of joggers. Itâs not like she would mind anyway. Â
Per usual, the bedroom door creaked loudly as he pulled it open, but he paid no attention to the noise, having gotten so used to the sound. What did catch his attention, however, was the sound of her favorite music drifting up the stairs from the kitchen. It caused the corners of his lips to tug upwards slightly, the smile threatening to take over his whole face. Not being able to wait to see her any longer, he raced down the stairs like he had done as a child. Even though he didnât have socks on, he practically slid across the hardwood floor, almost tripping over a pair of shoes laying in the middle of the room.
Stopping in the doorway of the kitchen, Harrison couldnât help but stare at the girl standing in his kitchen. His sweater - one that was too big, even for him - hung off of her frame, her bare legs on full display just underneath the hem of it. Her favorite music was playing quietly in the background, hips moving in time with the song as she stood at the stove, making breakfast. He was silent for a few moments as he watched, too entranced by her beauty to move or make a sound.
The grumbling from his stomach was what brought him back to reality as he watched her add another piece of French toast to the growing pile on a plate. Ever so carefully, he started moving across the kitchen toward her. When he heard her humming along to the songs, he had to stop himself from laughing at how ridiculously cute she was in everything she did. In one final swoop, he took the last step toward her and scooped her up into his arms, pressing her back into his chest.
A surprised gasp fell from her lips as she jumped in surprise, almost elbowing Harrison in the stomach. He laughed a little, despite almost having the wind knocked out of him, and pressed a kiss to her cheek, âRelax, love. Just me.â
Shaking her head, she scoffed, but he could hear the smile in her voice and could feel how she leaned back against his chest, âI know itâs only you, but for fuckâs sake, Haz. Scared the shit out of me, love.â
His head tipped back, eyes closing as laughter rumbled from his chest, which she could feel vibrate against her. âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry,â he managed to get out between laughs. When he finally got control of his laughter, he leaned back over her shoulder, arms settling low on her hips, giving her waist a squeeze, âGâmorning, pretty girl. Breakfast looks so good, and âm starving.â
Placing the last of the breakfast onto plates for them, she turned the stove off and then placed her arm across his, tilting her head back to rest against his shoulder, âMm. Hope it tastes as good as it looks.â
ââM sure it will, love,â Harrison mused, kissing her cheek and then craning his neck to peck her lips softly.
At this, she twisted in his grasp, arms finding their place around his neck as his hands settled on her waist near the small of her back. Leaning up on her toes, she pressed a kiss to his lips, fingers gently taking hold of the hair that curled at the nape of his neck.
He was quick to react, however, the kiss was anything but. He kissed her back softly and slowly, wanting to give the moment the time it deserved. After all, it wasnât every day that the two of them got to wake up and have breakfast together, especially with his crazy work schedule.
Another grumble from his stomach was what broke the kiss, causing her to laugh at him as she lifted a hand to pat his cheek gently, a loving smile placed on her lips, âCâmon then, my hungry boy. Donât want the food to get cold.â
His hands left her hips as he pulled away, moving to grab his plate of food. Not being able to help herself, she took the moment to watch him intently. He was wearing a pair of his joggers, so there wasnât much left for the imagination, and the fact that they were sitting so low on his hips didnât help either. His hair was still an absolute mess, the slight waves falling all over the place and into his eyes, making her want to reach up and brush it out of the way so she could see her favorite color. He was still tired, she could tell, from the way he shuffled around the kitchen, and she couldnât help but giggle at him, following his actions as she picked up her own plate.
They both took their places at the small wooden table tucked into the corner of the kitchen, sitting across from each other. They could sit next to each other, sure, but then they couldnât look at each other as they talked, which is what they liked to do most while they ate. In the mornings when they got the chance to eat with each other, it was usually somewhat quiet, tired grumbles of the dayâs plans being exchanged. At night, the dayâs stories would be told, as well as whatever random topic came to mind.
Immediately, they both dug in, not putting off their growling stomachs any further. Much like other mornings, she was much too concerned with her food to start a conversation and focused on her plate. He, on the other hand, got distracted after only a few bites. Once again, she had somehow pulled him in, and she had done it only by eating breakfast. It wasnât as if she was dressed up with her hair or makeup done; she wasnât telling a funny story, or anything of the sort. But somehow, Harrison had become so wrapped up of the image of her in his kitchen while sunlight filtered in through the window and music played softly in the background. Only a few short months ago, he had spotted her as an extra on set and was aching to know her name. And now? Here she was, in his sweater, eating breakfast with him. She was the only thing he could see.
Glancing up from her plate, she noticed the dazed expression on his face as he stared at her. Waving her fork in front of his face, she smiled a little, tilting her head to the side, asking, âWhy are you staring at me, dork?â Her hair was still a mess from sleeping, she was only wearing one of his sweaters, and she knew her lack of makeup wasnât doing her any favors.
Harrison shook his head as he snapped back to reality. A smile started to form on his lips, and he couldnât help but let it take over his face. âI just-â he paused, letting out a content sigh, âI canât get over how a few months ago I wanted to learn your name, and now youâre having breakfast with me in my sweater. Which you look stunning in, by the way.â
Her mouth opened, looking for the words to say, but instead, all she could do was smile. Her head dipped down, some hair falling into her face. Even so, Harrison was sure he had never seen anything brighter. It was brighter than the sunshine spilling into the room.
Feeling like her cheeks were on fire, she lifted her head after a moment, smile still prominent on her face. She let out a soft sigh, eyes twinkling as she rested her cheek in her palm, which was propped up against the table. âHarrison, I-â she stopped, trying to find the right words to say as a million thoughts flew around her head. She shook her head, realizing that nothing would convey all of her feelings in the right way. Nothing other than⌠âI love you, Harrison.â
They were still fairly new to the âI love youâs,â and each time the phrase was uttered, butterflies erupted in their stomachs and their hearts began beating wildly. Now, it was Harrison who was grinning, corners of his eyes crinkling as his smile lit up the room. He was dazzling, she thought; sheâd never seen anything brighter.
âI love you, too, Y/N.â
Cheeks still burning, she dipped her head back down and continued to eat her breakfast, even though she couldnât wipe the smile off of her face. Harrison continued to watch for a few moments, chuckling softly to himself as he watched, music being the only sound that filled the space. Â
-
When they were both done, Harrison stood up from his chair, gathering both his plate and hers, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. She stood up too, following him as he dumped the plates into the sink, and hopped up onto the counter to watch him. She grinned, calling out teasingly, âGonna wash the dishes, Prince Charming?â
He whipped around, ready to fire off a reply when the song changed. It was one of her favorites, and he loved it too.
Thereâs no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
âIn a minute, love,â he replied earnestly, wiping his hands off on the towel hanging next to the sink before crossing the kitchen to get to her, âsomething else I gotta do first.â
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she watched, but the second he wedged his way between her legs, she hooked them around his waist, pulling him in closer. Her arms rested over his shoulders, hands clasping behind his neck as he lifted his hands, cupping her cheeks in their warmth.
She leaned into his touch as the tip of his nose brushed against hers, one of his hands leaving her cheek to brush a few strands of hair back behind her ear. Harrison was humming along with the song quietly, making her eyes close as she giggled.
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Pressing a soft but quick peck to her lips, both of his hands fell to her hips to tug her off of the counter carefully. Once she was steady on her feet, he kept one hand planted firmly on her waist, the other one moving to intertwine his fingers with hers. They were both grinning like crazy as he began to move in time with the music, spinning her around the kitchen.
Gripping his shoulder tightly as they danced around the kitchen, she let her head tilt back as she laughed, her hair flying around them. He slowed down a bit, letting her lean back into him as she pressed her ear to his bare chest. His heartbeat thumped steadily in his chest, comforting her as she slid her arms around his torso. Â
Lifting up on her toes after a few moments of silence between them, she gave him a small smile before pressing her lips to his. His hand found her jaw again as he kissed her deeply, the sound of the music fading into the background.
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together
Their smiles were what broke the kiss apart, happy sighs escaping their lips as Harrison tipped his head down to press his forehead against hers. Eyes wide open, her favorite color stared back at her as his the pad of his thumb brushed out across her cheek soothingly, âLove you, darlin.â

<Previous / Next>
Hours later at the hospital, you were no longer calm like you had been earlier. Tom couldnât blame you, though. Itâd been hours since the two of youâd arrived, meaning itâd been several hours since the earliest contractions started, and you hadnât progressed a whole lot. He knew you. He knew that the pain and your slow progress of labor was making you panicky. He knew that both of your families arriving, effectively flooding the room with people, was not helping any, so he sent all of them out, saying itâd be awhile.
But Tom didnât really know what to do. He didnât know what to do to make it better for you. He so desperately wanted to, even though he knew there wasnât much he could actually do. He hated seeing you, his best friend and the love of his life, in pain and wished he could take it all away for you. Tom had been your best friend for most of your life, and was always there to fight off whatever was causing you pain, to make you feel better, but he couldnât do that now.
Not knowing what else to do, he got into the bed next to you while you were between contractions, and slid his arm around you to pull you into his side. You immediately collapsed into Tomâs side, balling the fabric of his shirt into your fists. His lips brushed over your forehead, hand rubbing up and down your back slowly, âWant a massage? Like in the class? They said it might helpâŚâ
Nodding your head, the two of you shifted your positions on the bed so you were sat between Tomâs legs. His legs were on either side of your hips as you leaned back against his chest for support. Tom began giving you a massage, just like theyâd taught in the birthing class. One of his hands left your skin to push your hair to one side of your neck, making space for Tom to press kisses to your shoulder and neck.
Though the massage was helping a bit, you could feel another contraction coming on, and you let your head fall back onto Tomâs shoulder with a loud groan. Tomâs hand slid around you, rubbing gentle circles onto your stomach, âBreathe, love, just like you learned. Can you do that for me?â
You nodded again, trying to focus on your breathing and Tomâs hands as the next wave of contractions began. One of your hands gripped the railing on the side of the bed, your other hand grabbing onto Tomâs forearm. When that one was finally over, you glanced up at Tom with teary eyes, mumbling out, âIt hurts so much, Tom.â
Tom frowned, feeling awful that he couldnât do anything for you. His hands left your sides and came up to cup both of your cheeks, brushing away a few tears that had fallen. âI know, love, and I-â
Letting out a quiet scoff, you stopped him short and pushed his hand away from your face. Suddenly, you were angry with him; he didnât know what it felt like, and he never would. âYou donât know, Tom!â you were close to yelling, trying to scoot away from him, âYou donât know what it feels like, and itâs your fault anyways. I wouldnât be pregnant if it werenât for you, so fuck you, Holland.â You could see the way Tomâs face twisted up a little bit at your words, and you felt bad, but you couldnât exactly control your emotions in your current state.
Your sudden outburst made Tom feel terrible. He knew you couldnât really help it, and technically you werenât wrong, but it still felt awful. If he could take away your pain, heâd do it in less than a second. And, quite honestly, you were right. Heâd never know what you were going through - what it felt like.
His hands slid around you hesitantly, but when you didnât pull away, he helped you back between his legs so you could lean against him. He continued to give you a massage, knowing another contraction would be coming soon. âIâm sorry,â he murmured against your skin.
Your head shook quickly as you leaned back against him once more, âNo, Iâm sorry, I-â you paused and gritted your teeth together with your eyes closed tightly as another contraction hit you. âI didnât mean it, I know youâre just trying to be supportive.â
âYouâre right though,â he mumbled as soon as youâd relaxed a little again, kissing your shoulder softly, âI donât know what itâs like. I can only imagine. But youâre doing so well, sweetheart, and our little butterfly will be here soon.â
-
Tom was right, and not long later, you were pushing. Things started to go quickly after your outburst, and while it was only getting more painful, you were so ready for the pain to be over, so ready to hold your baby. Even so, when the doctor checked you and let you know thatâd youâd be ready to start pushing any minute, you couldnât help but look up at Tom with a scared look in your eyes.
Tom had recognized the look you made and shook his head as he shifted off of the bed, moving to stand beside you. Heâd leaned down, pressing a kiss to the top of your head, âYouâre okay, Y/N/N. You can do this, I know you can. And as soon as itâs over, weâll be able to hold our little love.â He then had stuck his pinky out to you as he promised you that he wasnât going anywhere.
And now he was standing next to you with his hand in yours, your other hand gripping the railing. Other than the doctors and nurses, it was only the two of you in the room. The urge to push was coming back again, so you gripped Tomâs hand even tighter as you started pushing once more, yelling out in pain.
Tom didnât think anyone could squeeze his hand so hard. His hand was practically crushed in yours, but he didnât care. Leaning down to you, he pushed your sticky and sweaty hair away from your forehead, kissing your hand and then pressing soft kisses to your head while he whispered words of encouragement. âYouâre doing so well, love, youâve got this. Youâre so strong, baby girl, Iâm so proud of you.â His words were all you could focus on as you gave one last push before finally hearing your baby cry.
Everything from excitement to relief to exhaustion flooded through you the second you were done pushing, and you almost missed the happy announcement of âitâs a boy!â before they placed your little one on your chest. Cradling your baby boy against your chest, you brought him in closer to your face, admiring all of his little features. You didnât realize that you were crying until you looked up at Tom, who brushed some of your tears away, even though he had tears of his own shining in his eyes.
The back of your hand brushed away some of the tears on your cheeks before you reached for Tomâs hand, taking it much more gently than you had just moments earlier. âLook at him, Tommy,â you choked out, pressing a kiss to your babyâs head, âHeâs so perfect. Heâs finally here.â
Leaning down, Tom nudged his nose into your hair and nodded in agreement, âHeâs absolutely perfect.â You could feel his smile as he kissed your head again and brushed his fingers over your sonâs head carefully. âI love you so much, Y/N. Iâm so proud of you, baby.â
Tomâs words filled you up, and you were positive that youâd never felt more full, never been happier. You were certain of this fact⌠until Tom was handed his son after heâd gotten the necessary checks. Tom took him so carefully, as if he was scared of harming your baby boy. He cradled him against his chest, never lifting his gaze. The scene brought more tears to your eyes, and you couldnât help it when they spilled over your lashes.
Youâd pictured this moment plenty of times; your best friend holding your newborn oh-so carefully. You just never imagined that your baby would also be his. Never in a million years did you think that youâd fall in love with your best friend. And yet, you would never ask for anything different.
Tom managed to glance away from your baby boy to look at you, noticing the tears staining your cheeks again. His face was immediately filled with worry, âAre you okay, baby? Are you in pain?â
Your head shook quickly as you brushed some tears away once more, âNo, Iâm okay, Tom. Iâm perfect.â His smile was the sun as he leaned over, pressing a kiss to your lips softly. Scooting over in the bed, you made room for Tom to sit next to you. He handed you your son as he got in next to you, his arms sliding around the both of you protectively.
The room grew quiet as you leaned into Tomâs shoulder, the pair of you staring down at your baby in admiration. One of Tomâs hands came up to play with your hair, and he pressed his lips against your cheek gently. Your head turned every so slightly, nose nudging into Tomâs. Dipping his head down a bit, Tom pressed his forehead into yours, his hand trailing across to cup your cheek softly.
A happy sigh escaped your lips, and you spoke barely above a whisper, not wanting to disturb the peace of the room, âI love you, Tom.â Â
âLove you so much, Y/N,â was all he mumbled before his lips were pressed to yours in a soft kiss.
Just as you pulled away, the door opened and a nurse walked into the room. She had some papers in her hands, but she gave the both of you a bright smile, âDo you have a name for your little one, yet?â
Glancing up to Tom, you exchanged a look with him and then both nodded at the same time. Youâd decided on a name awhile back, and after seeing your son, you knew that it was the perfect name for him. Your fingertip trailed down your boyâs tiny button nose as Tom recited the name. You repeated the name in a whisper to your baby boy. It fit him perfectly.

Tom had been busy all day, and you missed him like crazy. Heâd gotten up early for a meeting, leaving only after pressing a kiss to your head as you slept. Once he was back, he had a bunch of other stuff to work on, not to mention he had a new script that he had to read through. You knew that you really shouldnât bother him, but by the evening, you were aching to cuddle him close and kiss him softly.
Sitting in the living room, Tom was still reading through the script, with his third cup of tea in hand. Biting down on your bottom lip, you slowly made your way over to Tom, not wanting to distract him too much. Ever so carefully, you sat down next to him on the couch, leaning into his side and whispering quietly, âGonna be done soon, Tommy?â
A small hum was his response as he slid his arm around your waist to pull you in closer, âIâll be done in a minute, mâlove. Then we can cuddle, yeah?â
This satisfied you, and you nodded as you rested your head against his shoulder, pressing a kiss to his jaw. Resting your palm flat against Tomâs stomach, you slid your hand across his torso, curving around his side as you snuggled in closer to him. Tom was always so soft and so warm, and all you ever wanted was to be as close to him as possible.
You knew you were being clingy, but as soon as the thought crossed your mind, you couldnât help yourself as you crawled into Tomâs lap. He let out a soft laugh, lifting his arms a little until you got comfortable before resting one of his hands on your back. Both of your arms wrapped his middle, your legs on either side of his waist as you leaned in, pressing your nose into the crook of his neck. Tom leaned forward, resting his chin against your shoulder lightly so he could finish the last few lines he had to read. As he read, his hand slid up and down your back slowly, only serving to cause you to bury yourself further into his embrace.
The second Tom was done reading, he tossed the script onto the coffee table. Immediately, his arms went around you as he let out a soft sigh, tugging your body fully against his in a tight hug. He let out a content hum as his nose nudged into your hair. Your fingers tangled into the soft brown hairs that curled at the base of his neck as you pressed a kiss to his cheek and then another to his shoulder.
Giving your waist a gentle squeeze, Tom pulled back just enough so he could rest his forehead against yours. His warm brown eyes met yours, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, âLove you. Love you so much, darlinâ.â
Tilting your head forward a bit, the tip of your nose nudged against his as you murmured back, âLove you, too, baby.â
And with that, Tomâs lips were against yours in the softest kiss. One of his hands stayed on your back, rubbing it in slow circles, but his other came up, cupping your cheek in his warm palm. A happy sigh escaped your lips in between kisses, pulling Tom in close, close, close.

You finally got home around midnight after working a late shift at the diner. All you wanted to do was go straight to sleep, but you didn't like getting into bed without showering first. So, quite reluctantly, you took a shower and got ready for bed. Finally, almost an hour later, you were comfy in bed. You had your favorite pajamas on, and the covers pulled all the way up. It only took a matter of moments before you'd passed out, sleeping peacefully.
Unluckily for you, this was the night the fire alarms went off. And only about half an hour after youâd finally, finally, fallen asleep. This had happened before, so you knew it was most likely a false alarm; someone had probably accidentally burned their midnight snack, or something stupid like that. Without much haste, you got out of bed, grabbing a blanket and your phone as you slipped on your shoes and headed outside.
You lived on one of the bottom floors of your building, so managed to get outside pretty quickly. It seemed as though many people didnât think it through like you had. There were a ton of people in their pajamas without shoes huddling together. It was summer, but that didnât mean it was a very warm night. Most people had found friends and neighbors and started chatting with them. You, on the other hand, didnât know too many people; you were always busy with work or friends, and when you werenât, you were inside, probably watching The Office on Netflix for the millionth time.
After a few minutes of standing by yourself with your blanket wrapped around your shoulders, you noticed one of your neighbors from down the hall standing not too far from you. He was wearing nothing but a pair of shorts, and his hair was messy, falling down into his face. You didnât know him super well, but he always smiled at you or said hi when you passed each other in the hallway, so you went over to stand next to him.
The closer you got, you could tell that he was cold. His arms were crossed over his chest and his jaw was clenched. âHey- Tom, right?â You had planned to sound confident, but your voice came out small.
His demeanor changed when he realized that you were standing next to him. He relaxed a little and gave you a smile, nodding his head. âYeah. Hey, Y/N.â You were a little surprised that he remembered your name, and you didnât say anything for a moment, but then he spoke up. âThis sucks. Thought Iâd be getting a full night of sleep for once, and then this.â
You laughed a little and nodded your head as you turned to look at him, âI got home from work at like midnight and Iâd just gotten fallen asleep when they started going off.â You rolled your eyes but gave him a smile, which was quickly returned. Tom had a great smile. A great everything, actually. He wasnât wearing a shirt, so you could see his toned abdomen, and with the way his arms were crossed over his chest, his biceps looked huge. Youâd always thought Tom was attractive, and he seemed nice, but you didnât know each other, and you didnât think heâd go for someone like you anyway.
Tomâs voice snapped you out of it. âOh man. That sucks. At least you were prepared,â he said with a chuckle, gesturing to your blanket, âI didnât think it through, and now Iâm freezing.â
Lifting your chin slightly to get a better look at him, you found a surge of confidence, âYou can use it if you want. Iâm okay.â You started to pull the blanket off, but Tom stopped you.
He was shaking his head quickly, moving to wrap the blanket back around your shoulders. âOh, no, no. I canât do that. Thanks for the offer though, Y/N.â
You let out a quiet huff, and held one side of the blanket out to him again, âOkay, well at least share it with me, then. I donât want you to freeze.â
Tomâs eyes cut sideways to look at you as he hesitated, trying to decide if heâd take you up on your offer. A moment later, he was standing with his shoulder against yours, pulling the blanket around his other shoulder. Luckily, it was a big blanket, and it fit around both of your shoulders.
Even though Tom was cold, you could feel the heat that was radiating off of his body, so you shuffled a little bit closer to him. He let out a quiet laugh, tilting his head so he could get a better look at you. âSo where do you work?â
âOh, I work at a diner about ten minutes from here.â
His eyes lit up as he gave you a huge smile, âTommyâs? I love that place! How come Iâve never seen you there?â
You laughed with a nod, âYeah! Iâm not sure, Iâm always working.â
Tom nodded in agreement, âI feel that. Iâm literally always busy. Thatâs why I was looking forward to a full night of sleep.â
Your eyebrows furrowed together and you scrunched your nose up, âWhat do you do?â
Even though it was dark out, you could see the way Tomâs cheeks flushed slightly, and he gave you a shy smile, âI, um, Iâm an actor.â
This time, your eyebrows shot up, âReally? Thatâs so cool! Are you working on something now?â
Tom nodded slowly, turning his body so that you were chest to chest, the big blanket wrapped around both your shoulders. âYeah, actually.â
Biting the inside of your cheek, you shifted your gaze to keep it on him as he moved. âWhat is it? If you donât mind me asking.â
âWell, Iâm not supposed to tell anyone, really, but Iâm going to be playing Spider-Man.â
Your jaw dropped to the floor as you gasped, your eyes going wide, âNo way! I love Spider-Man, heâs always been my favorite superhero. Congratulations, Tom.â
A huge grin broke out on Tomâs face, âThanks, Y/N/N. Iâm really excited.â
Silence - a comfortable one - filled the air between the two of you as you looked at each other. Another moment passed, and suddenly, a yawn escaped from you. You lifted your hand to rub your eyes as you mumbled sleepily, âAh sorry. âM just so tired.
Tomâs head shook as his hands landed on your waist and he pulled you in a little closer. âNo worries, love, I get it. Just lean against me. Iâve got ya.â
Butterflies filled your stomach when Tom called you love. First a nickname, and now this? Thereâs no way the beautiful boy from down the hall was interested in you, right? Regardless, you hesitated but nodded and then rested against Tomâs shoulder. His skin was soft and warm, and he smelled nice. Tomâs hands moved slowly, hesitantly, before sliding around your waist and pulling you in even closer. You let your eyes close a moment later, then slid your arms around his torso to get closer to him. Tom chuckled, and you could feel it through his chest.
Just as youâd started to drift off to sleep, an all clear was called, jolting you awake. Tom realized that youâd started to fall asleep, and he laughed at you as the two of you made your way back inside. When you made it to your floor, he continued walking with you, past his door.
âTom, whatâre you doing?â your voice was still sleepy as you looked up at him in confusion.
He just gave a small laugh, coming to a stop in front of your door. âJust making sure you get home safely.â
His words made you smile as you slipped out from underneath the blanket to unlock your door. As soon as the door was open, you thanked Tom a few times before heading inside to get some sleep.
The next morning when you woke up, you realized that Tom still had your blanket. Opening the door to your apartment to go get it, you found Tom standing there, his hand raised to knock the door. Your blanket was thrown over his shoulder, and he had two coffees and a bag from a nearby bakery.
Tom gave you a huge grin, holding the food in his hands up, âBreakfast for two⌠as a thank you for last night.â

Intimacy was hard for you. You trusted Tom, you really did. But as someone who wasnât experienced with boys, with romance, with intimacy and affection, it was hard for you. You wanted to show Tom everything you were feeling for him⌠you just didnât know how.
It wasnât even that long ago that Tom had gotten you into his room. It had been months of you and Tom in your room, you and Tom in different places around campus, you and Tom at different restaurants. Tom was your roommate Zendayaâs best friend, and he had slowly started spending more and more time with you instead of her. It wasnât until you began helping him study for classes - reading to him when he had trouble focusing, helping him with the few things you already knew, figuring out ways to help him with things you didnât - that something started to develop between the two of you.
-
As you were in the middle of reading the book to Tom, you shifted, trying to get more comfortable. Without a second thought, Tom had pulled you down onto your back next to him. He was laying on his side, his arm underneath your head, staring down at you quietly. Nearing the end of the book, you found it much harder to keep your eyes open, and Tom told you that it was okay, and that you could stop, but you insisted on finishing the book.
Finally finishing the last sentence of the book, you dropped it onto your stomach, letting out a loud groan. Your eyes were about to flutter shut when Tomâs rough fingertips traced down your arm slowly, making your eyes flit up to him.
He was just as sleepy as you, you could tell. His dark curls fell down onto his forehead - an unusual placement, as the curls were normally swept up and to the side - and you wanted nothing more than to reach up and brush them out of his face. You would bet a million bucks that his hair was soft. In fact, everything about him seemed so soft.
The promise of sleep was making his eyes heavy, as he struggled to keep those beautiful brown eyes on you. In the dim light of your room, his eyes looked dark; it wasnât a harsh, striking dark color, though, it was still oh-so soft. Normally, in the light of day, you often found yourself noticing the array of colors found inside of his eyes, even though you didnât want to. You loved the way the sunlight bounced off of them, letting you see the browns, the ambers, the warm honey colors⌠ all of it.
Lifting your eyes, and connecting with Tom, there was something within you that drew you in closer. Your hand lifted unintentionally, and suddenly your hand was at the back of his neck, your fingers tangling into the soft hairs that curled against his skin there, as he pulled you in closer.
Your lips met his, and you felt your heart stop. Your mind went blank, immediately forgetting what to do. Luckily for you, Tomâs warm hand came up to cup your jaw, as his lips moved against yours slowly, letting you warm up to the kiss. It was only a matter of seconds before your mind had fixed itself and you found yourself kissing him back. Youâd only kissed a few people before, and it was never like this. Never this nice.
Not wanting to get ahead of yourself, you pulled your lips back from his, twirling your finger around one of his curls with your eyes closed. Your eyes were still closed, but you could feel Tomâs gaze on you, and you opened your eyes gently.
Tomâs face broke out into one of his wide grins, and you couldnât help but to smile back at him. Without another word, your head was back resting against Tomâs arm, your eyes fluttering shut, drifting off to sleep.
-
Now you were in his room, sitting on his bed with him. Tom lived in a house on campus with a few of his other friends. He lived on the top floor of the house and had it to himself, as it wasnât very big. He said that he lived on the top floor because he was the only one who volunteered to do so. It made you kind of nervous, knowing that the two of you would just be by yourselves, but you trusted Tom. He was also so kind and patient with you, never doing anything you werenât 100% okay with.
Tomâs back was against the wall, and you were sitting between his legs with your back pressed to his chest as you read to him. This had been Tomâs idea. You read to him sometimes, and you knew he liked to listen to you, but you didnât think heâd want to do this if you werenât studying.
It was comfortable like this. Tom placed his chin gently on your shoulder as looked on while you read. His hands seemed to have a mind of their own as you read. At first, his arms had been wrapped around your waist to hug you closer to him. But now, his hands had traveled to your arms, running down the length of them.
One of his hands settled on your hip, the other coming up to sweep your hair to the other side of your shoulder. He leaned in towards you, and you could feel his breath on your skin, making you stutter as you read. He pressed a soft kiss to the exposed skin of your shoulder, and then another to the crook of your neck.
His actions made you stop, dropping the book onto the bedspread in front of your legs. Tom let out a soft groan, his hands back around your waist as he shook his head, âNooo, keep reading, sweetheart.â
You turned your upper body slightly so you could get a better look at him, your bottom lip coming out into a pout. âMy voice is tired, Tom. And youâre kind of distractingâŚâ
A small sigh escaped Tomâs lips, and you watched as he pulled his bottom lip between his teeth slightly. The sigh wasnât angry. Maybe just a little disappointed and frustrated. âI like listening to you read, Y/N. And, well, you only really let me touch you when youâre distracted. When youâre reading.â
Your actions mirrored his, as your bottom lip came in between your teeth. He was right. And he was always so patient and kind with you. Before the two of you had really started dating, youâd kissed. Youâd slept next to him all night. But for some reason, now that the two of you were together, it scared you. Only so often youâd hold hands or hug him, and youâd very rarely kiss.
You could see the frustration and the hurt that was etched into his face. You wanted so desperately to show him that same admiration and affection back, but you didnât know how. And you were scared, to be perfectly honest.
âI know,â Tom started, his voice soft, âthat youâre scared. And thatâs okay. We donât have to do anything you donât want to do, I promise. We can just forget about sex all together for right now, if that would make you feel better. I just want you to want me, tooâŚâ
You turned around to face Tom, sitting on your knees between his legs. You nodded your head slowly and picked up one of his hands in yours. His hand was always so warm, and it fit so perfectly in yours. âI-Iâm sorry, Tom.â Your thoughts were a jumbled mess in your brain, and you were just trying to figure out how to get them all out coherently. Tomâs eyes were trained on your face, as you lifted his hand, running your fingertips over the lines in his palm. âGod, Tom, I want so badly to touch you and kiss you. I really do. Iâm just⌠Iâm scared. Iâm not experienced in this kind of stuff, and⌠I feel like if I started, Iâd never be able to stop touching you and kissing you. Iâd make an absolute fool of myself.â
This made Tom smile; the corner of his lips tugging up slightly as he looked at you. You leaned forward after youâd finished speaking, your hands coming to rest against Tomâs chest. Your fingers splayed out over the fabric of his flannel, and you slowly lifted your eyes to meet his gaze.
Tomâs hands came up to rest on the back of your hands, his fingers curling in between the spaces of yours. He gave your hands the gentlest of squeezes, lifting your hands away from his chest. âI know, Iâm sorry. Iâm not trying to pressure you, or anything, I hope you know that. And Iâm absolutely positive, my love, that you wouldnât make a fool out of yourself.â
Your head shook in response as you carefully pried your fingers away from Tomâs, and placed them back against his chest. âNo, no, no. I do. I do want to touch you. And kiss you.â You felt embarrassed at your admission, and you only barely lifted your eyes to his once more, âCan I?â Tom only nodded, and you could tell that he was watching your every movement.
Lifting your hand, you rested your fingertips against his jaw. Underneath your touch, you could feel Tomâs jaw clench momentarily. Your touch was as light as a feather as you let them drift along the length of his jaw. You let the tip of your pointer finger trail down the bridge of his nose.
Your fingers settled against his collarbone that was peaking out from underneath the flannel. They brushed back and forth a few times before your hand was making itâs way down to the first button of the flannel.
The button was small between your fingers, and you hesitated before you pushed the button through the small hole of the shirt, letting it come undone. Tomâs chest heaved as he sucked in a breath, your fingers brushing against his undershirt as they slid down to the next button. You popped the next button, and then the next, each with a little more confidence than before.
Once you had all of the buttons undone, you reached up and slid your hands under the flannel, pushing it off of Tomâs shoulders and down his arms. Tom had nice arms. He frequently worked out, and you could tell that it was paying off. Your hands ran down his arms, stopping at his hands, slipping them into his.
After you realized that you were basically starting to strip Tom, you looked down, a blush rising on your cheeks. Tomâs hand came up and cupped your chin gently, lifting it to look into his eyes once more. That didnât last long, though, and Tom drew your face in closer, ever-so-slowly pressing his lips to yours. You could tell from how carefully he was moving that he didnât want to scare you off, didnât want to make you even more nervous, and you really appreciated that.
The kiss was gentle and sweet, your lips dancing with each otherâs. Tomâs hands came to rest at your hips as he pulled you into his lap, your legs on either side of his waist. He drew you in closer to him, and you grabbed a handful of the white t-shirt he had been wearing under the flannel. Tom squeezed you in closer to him, while at the same time, you pulled on his shirt to bring him closer to you. The two of you bumped noses, breaking the kiss as quiet giggles started to spill from your mouth.
A bright smile took over Tomâs entire face as he watched you laugh. Once you got control of yourself, you let go of Tomâs shirt from your fists, sliding your hands flat down against his chest. You reached the end of the plain white shirt and gave the hem of it a tug. You wanted it off. This wasnât anything sexual, even. You just wanted to see his chest, touch his warm skin.
Tom gave you a questioning glance, but you only nodded, so he leaned forward, grabbing the shirt at the back of the neck and pulled it up and over his head. The shirt landed on the ground near his flannel, but you didnât take time to notice. You were too busy staring at the beautiful boy in front of you.
Both of your hands came to rest on his chest once more. Tom was always warm; his hand was always comforting when he slipped it into your cold one, his hugs always filled you to the brim with warmth. Now, however, it seemed as though he was burning. His skin was so warm to the touch, and you could feel his heartbeat against the palm of your hand. Your eyes flicked up to his, and you could feel the pace of his heart quicken slightly, making your mouth tilt up into a small smile.
Because he worked out so often, Tom was muscular. He wasnât ripped, but he was definitely nice to look at. You kind of expected his chest to be hard and angular, but instead, it was soft. It was soft and warm, and his heartbeat reminded you that he, too, was delicate. Your hands slid over the planes of his chest and stomach, feeling each of the dips and edges and curves that he was made up of.
It was quiet in the room. You could hear music being played from a room a few floors below you. You could hear the sound of the rain coming down outside; hitting the window rhythmically, making the leaves in the trees blow, the occasional sound of thunder. But most of all, it was as if you could hear Tomâs heartbeat. You could feel it beneath your hand, but the sound of his heartbeat seemed to fill your ears.
After a few moments of silence, Tomâs eyes on you as your hands flitted across his chest, you realized that this was probably weird. This was probably something that didnât happen with other people. You began to lift your hands away from Tomâs chest, but he quickly pinned your hands in his, another one of his big smiles growing on his lips.
Your cheeks flushed a deep red, and you could just feel the heat that was radiating off of them. It took a lot of courage to look Tom in the eyes, and you quickly stuttered out, âI-Iâm sorry. This is weird. I told you⌠I told you Iâd make a fool of myself and now-â
He let go of one of your hands, his finger coming up to place over your lips, effectively cutting off your rambling. âSweetheart, itâs okay. Itâs not weird. Itâs cute. Youâre so cute.â
Tom knew just how to make you feel better, and this time, you were the one to press your lips to his. This kiss wasnât as soft, it was more needy, but it was just as sweet. Tomâs hands were at your waist, slowly slipping underneath your shirt. You pulled back from Tom, and he gave you a worried look, wondering if heâd gone too far. But instead, you pulled your shirt over your head, letting it drop to the floor with Tomâs shirts.
Tomâs eyes went wide at the sight of you in just your bra. You knew that if you put your hands on Tom, you wouldnât be able to stop yourself. And now, here you were, in only your bra and leggings, sitting in his lap. Oddly enough, though, you didnât mind. This felt right. You didnât regret anything thatâd happened so far.
His hands reached out, pulling you closer, his hands sliding along your sides. Youâd always thought of Tomâs hands as soft and warm, but now that his palms were resting against the soft skin of your torso, you could feel their roughness.
You took in a deep breath before letting it go slowly, leaning in to Tom, pressing a soft and quick kiss to his lips. Just a soft peck. After a few moments of looking at each other, just admiring the other, Tom shifted in the bed, pulling you off of his lap and moved you next to him.
Tom was still laying on his back, and you were now laying on your side next to him. You put your head on his shoulder, your arm sliding over his torso. This was all new for you, and it all came very quickly. But, you were okay with it.
A small sigh slowly left your lips as the thoughts rushed around in your head. Tomâs hand came up to brush through your hair lightly, his lips pressed against your hairline. âYou okay, love?â he whispered into your hair.
You tilted your head slightly to look at him as you picked up his hand. A small smile was making its way into your lips. Your fingers traced over the lines in his palm again. âYeah, Iâm good.â The smile faded from your lips slightly, your voice faltering, âI just... why do you like me, Tom? I donât get it.â
Tomâs hands immediately came up to cup your cheeks, looking directly at you as he spoke. His voice was soft and careful, but it was firm - he knew what he was saying. âBecause, Y/N, you are the most extraordinary person Iâve ever met. Youâre so smart and kind, and everything you do is thoughtful. Even just now, when we were kissing and stuff, I could tell there was thought behind every single move you made.â
You nodded slightly, nuzzling into Tomâs shoulder, letting your eyes close. Tomâs lips were pressing small kisses across your cheek and forehead, and he murmured against your skin, âIâm falling for you, Y/N/N.â The nickname that only he called you slipped from his mouth, and you couldnât help but smile against his shoulder.
Why had you been so afraid? There was nothing to be afraid of. Tom was kind and understanding. He was patient with you, and you trusted him. What more could you want?
