A Thorsday post for your reading enjoyment. I hope that wherever you're reading this, you are with people you love eating food you enjoy. <3
See you next week.
I'm sitting by a main road. When I look up, I can see the traffic go by in a city that I'm quickly coming to love, a blur of lights and neon that make the city glitter like the stars hanging overhead. It's Thursday--the most important Thor's day of the year for me, because all I do is twist mainstream holidays to fit my needs--and this isn't the first time I've considered how Thor is a god of people. Not kings, not nobles. People: builders, workers, smallfolk.
It's people that have put me here, given me this chance to see this city and live here.
And so, this Thor's day, it seems fitting to acknowledge them.
See, I'm here because other people got me here. They found money despite the fact that most of them have little to spare. They encouraged me to go, they kept me from losing faith that I would figure out where I needed to be. They fed me when I would have gone hungry, put a roof over my head to keep me out of the cold, listened to my worries to keep me sane. This isn't any one person--this is a plethora of people, many who don't even know each other, strung out across continents and countries.
It wasn't until I was traveling, until I was trying to finish the last few steps to get to South Korea, that I became hyper-aware of just how fortunate I am to have these people. That I even realized how many people could and would try to help me. The generosity that I've been shown, the kindness and support from expected and unexpected corners both....
It's humbling. Absolutely. I never really thought I could do anything by myself, I always thought I knew how much I relied on other people to help--but when I was at the edge of what I could do, it was these people who stepped in and pushed me the last of the way for no other reason than kindness and the fact they cared what happened to me.
It's a very different thing, to know and knowing.
And so, this Thor's day (and feast day for me), a moment for the smallfolk, the workers and doers and builders, the ones who don't rule anything except their own home--and sometimes not even that.
It's no wonder Thor cares so much for the smallfolk. They're the most generous souls I know.
What do you think about white-passing poc's? Do they still receive privilege?
Yes, and even lightskinned poc who don't necessarily pass as white can be privileged; however, white-passing poc are still a part of the poc community. - G
