Thomas Ruff
Thomas Ruff is a native German photographer, his work has been recognised as ‘’a master of edited and reimagined images’’.
What strikes me to the most about Ruff’s approach is high large scale printing for exhibition. When spectating his photographs at the National Portrait Gallery in London, I had felt a sense of authority and power rooting off from the walls. The portraits are so huge that I felt so small and that the faces depicted something so heavy over me.There is a dominant visual language which his large scale sized prints transmit to his viewers. As my focus is following stories which require acknowledgment concerning the selfish effects of war, a powerful transmission is required. By using the wall space as much as possible in this directions will support the strength I am hoping for, for the images influence towards spectators.
