Multi-faceted avant-pop songwriter Thomas Azier unveils short-film for new single ‘Love, Disorderly’, due for release via Hylas Records. The new cut is the title track and first offering from his upcoming album ‘Love, Disorderly’, set for release on 12th June. Thomas Azier is more than a musician, his artistic medium approaches music in a unique way, the same way a visual artist or a painter would approach their respective forms of art. With ‘Love, Disorderly’ he allows inspiration from different mediums including photography and film to alter music structures and intentions. https://youtu.be/PgVy-R5jzJU The compelling documentary-style music video accompanying the track is in French director Laurent Chanez own words “a mind-bending free-form travelogue that journeys from Asia to Europe and America. A non-linear short film where the viewer travels between the real and the mythical, the individual and the collective.” Known for his work on the music video for Aufgang’s ‘Backstabbers’ - nominated for ‘Best Editing’ and ‘Best Cinematography’ at the UKMVA and won ‘Best Cinematography’ at last year’s Berlin Music Video Awards – Laurent’s visuals depict life’s chaotic turmoil and its tenuous connections. “I feel Laurent managed to capture the 'soul of the world' in a series of observations made throughout 2019. It reads as if you were flipping through the pages of a book, of a National Geographic magazine, through Instagram stories and the news. It displays a state of the world without judgement or narrative,” explains Thomas. Composed and recorded with Finnish experimental guitarist and producer Obi Blanche and musicians from various orchestras in Amsterdam, the track billows with discordance before locking into its skipping rhythm, pronounced string section, and volatile bursts of noise. It's like a cleansing of the palate, or a rousing alarm, with Azier's voice appearing midway through the track sounding like an unsettling Alan Vega of Suicide. After the release of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Hylas’ in 2014, which single ‘Red Eyes’ was chosen for a Yves Saint Lauren’sinternational TV campaign, Thomas has constantly experimented with different musical directions, his restless creativity only enhanced by his capability of taking inspiration from the places he lived in from Amsterdam to Japan, via Berlin and Paris. Last year’s ‘Raven on the First Floor’, an EP that revealed an unheard darkness and chaos in his music, was acclaimed by key tastemakers including Clash and The Line of Best Fit.
