ok we seriously need to talk about thomas sanders. i feel like i haven't seen people really posting about how weird he is... like, anywhere. if you're writing a hate comment right now, i can't stop you, but please just listen for a second, and MAYBE this'll change your mind.
for starters...the sanders sides. everyone's probably somewhat familiar with this show, but if you don't know, the basic concept is a sitcom-style show about the "sides", aka different aspects of thomas's mind, such as creativity, anxiety, logic, etc. now, he's stated before that this show is not meant to be a parody or mockery of DID (dissociative identity disorder), but come on. he can say whatever he likes, but it won't change the fact that this concept is, whether intentionally or not, making light of a very serious and real disorder. another thing about the show is that it's not really meant to be something super serious. it's generally targeted towards children. as such, the fanbase that this show has is almost entirely comprised of children and younger teens. think 9-15ish. this is not inherently a bad thing at all, but just keep this in mind as we go on. the content within the show itself is generally pretty clean and unproblematic (albeit very 2016 tumblr humor and pretty cringe, but to each their own). however, it's mostly thomas's online posting, both about himself and his characters, that we need to address. which brings me to....
his online presence. i'm not going to sugarcoat this: thomas sanders posts a lot of pictures of his butt, and him in semi-revealing and somewhat fanservice-y clothes. once again, choosing to post this type of content is not inherently wrong, but a 32 (?) year old man WITH A FOLLOWING OF MOSTLY MINORS should know better than to post this on main. he even has a special hashtag for pictures of his butt. obviously, minors shouldn't be having unrestricted Internet access, but lots do anyway, obviously. any adult who makes content targeted towards children shouldnt be using their online popularity that they gained from making kids content to post suggestive images of themself. and now... the part I've been dreading most. this is definitely going to turn up some hate comments, but... the fandom.
before i get into the fandom, i should first mention that this is based off of things that ive noticed. if you are in the sanders sides fandom and none of the things I'm about to say describe you, then by all means know that I hold no hatred towards you. this is simply meant to raise a conversation about the bad side of the fandom, since lord knows every fandom has a bad side. with that in mind... here we go.
for starters, this is something a friend of mine told me recently. from what i've heard, thomas sanders now has a boyfriend. cool good for him. anyway, my friend has been sent (yes, DMed) MULTIPLE 18+ smut animatics of REAL Thomas and his REAL boyfriend. hey. common sense says don't do that. so does the law. of course, my friend reported these people, but the atrocity still stands. also, another thing that i've noticed is that people's parasocial relationship with thomas is particularly strong, and i've got a feeling that that's just how he wants it. yet another thing about this fandom is that they treat thomas like a god. everything he says is truth, worship the ground he walks on, etc etc. guys. he's literally just a random middle aged gay white man. he's seriously not that cool.
there are probably other things to mention, but my hands are getting tired lol. take everything i've said with a grain of salt, and if there's something inaccurate or something i missed then PLEASE lmk... thank you for reading this far, please don't cancel me...
