You were new to the town of La’Belle. After the tragic accident, resulting in the loss of your home and your parents, you decided to go out into the country, to stay with your aunt- Alice Fletcher.

The night you arrived, Alice was in town supposedly taking care of some business, so you head out into town to greet her and take a small look around your temporary home. The streets were quiet, with only a few questionable gazes directed at you as you walked by. Unaware of where you were actually headed, you decide to slow your pace, in hopes you will catch sight of your Aunt soon. When suddenly you hear her voice coming from within the Sheriff’s station. Not wanting to interrupt, you stealthily make your way to the side of the building and peer through the window. The first thing you take in is the back of a young man’s head. He has tousled dark blonde hair, with an attractively lanky figure. You watched as he began to slowly remove his gun belt. Curious as to what was going on, you edge closer to the window, allowing you a full view of the room. Your aunt was standing there with a rifle pointed straight at the boy.

Mesmerized as to what would happen next, you remain peering through the window, as the boy removes his other gun belt and heads towards the cell with his keys. Alice calls the prisoner out and orders the boy to take his place, the prisoner then locking him inside. They both turn around and begin to head outside. You were about to walk back to the front of the building to greet your aunt and find out what she was doing smuggling out a prisoner, until you catch a glimpse of the boys face. You are instantly captured by his defined yet delicate features and warm, inviting eyes. You remain there for a while, taking in his appearance, until you notice that your aunt has already left. You run back to the street and see her riding off into the distance “damn!” You begin to trail after her, before hearing someone humming an old song your mother used to sing to you, causing you to halt and take in the sweet melody. Realizing it was coming from within the Sheriff’s station, you make your way to the door and then quietly enter the building. The boy was sitting on the bed, with his hands in his lap, looking down at the floor. He had not yet noticed you, so you lean against the door frame, facing towards him “Getting comfortable in there?” 

You chuckle as he becomes startled at your words and bolts upright, your eyes instantly connecting “And who in the hell might you be?”

You watch as he looks you up and down, taking in your appearance, a small smile slowly forming on his face. You brush your long hair back behind you, revealing more of your slender figure for him to absorb. “Who me?” you ask nonchalantly, “My name’s Y/N, Y/L/N. I’m the niece of the woman who just had a gun pointed at you.” You casually stroll over to his desk and begin to look at the artifacts placed on it. 

The boys eyes widen in surprise “You’re related to Alice Fletcher?”

“The one and only” you snicker “And who might you be?” You turn to face him, waiting for his introduction. He awkwardly stands and coughs, making his way over to the bars, with his hand extended through “I’m- erm- Whitey, Whitey Winn. Now if you don’t mind letting me out of here so i can get back to my duties as deputy?”

You shake his hand, holding onto it longer than you needed to, before turning your back on him and continuing to search around his desk “Now, now Mr Winn, you can’t get out of your predicament this easily. You see my aunt must have locked you up in here for some reason, and I highly doubt she would undermine this town’s...” you peer over your shoulder at him “handsome deputy, unless it was for a good cause.” 

He swallows, a blush forming on his cheeks before replying to you “well ma'am, you see, I do not know the reason for miss Fletcher taking my prisoner or locking me in here, which is what I intend to find out.” 

You pick up his gun belts from off the table and put them on over your dress “Well these are some pretty fine guns, I could do with some guns like these.”

Whitey moves closer to the bars, clearly agitated “Put those down before you hurt yourself, women like you shouldn’t even hold a gun, let alone own one” 

You snicker at his remark, “Women like me? And what type of woman would that be?”

He awkwardly shifts to the side, aware that he has made you mad “Well you know ma’am I meant no disrespect, I just meant a pretty women like you should be running a household suitable for their husband and children, not handling weapons.”

“I’ll have you know that i don’t have a husband and as for weapons I already have one right here...” You lift up your dress to show off the dagger strapped to your thigh. 

Whitey once again swallows, unsuccessfully trying not to stare at your exposed leg. “Well that’s good to know- about having a weapon I mean, not at the fact that you don’t have a husband” He awkwardly tries to play off his sentence, not wanting you to know that he was interested in the state of your affairs. 

You chuckle at his comment and once again lean against the door frame, a flirty and playful look in your eye “Well seeing as I have two new weapons...” You motion towards his guns still buckled onto your hips “I guess i’ll be on my way.”

“Miss Y/N, please don’t tell me you’re thinking of taking my guns and leaving me in this cell?”

You wake up after a long night of drinking and laughing with your aunt about your ordeal with the deputy. It was the first time in a while you’d actually woken up happy and excited about what the day might bring. You get dressed and strap Whiteys gun belts across your hips, giggling to yourself as you do so. You head out into the field, ready to help around Alice’s run down farm- maybe the well could finally be completed.

“Hey Y/N!” Alice calls out to you “Do you mind heading into town and picking up some supplies? I’ll write you out a list and you can borrow my horse.”

“Yeah sure, i’ll get saddled up.”

You make your way into town, constantly finding yourself glancing around hoping to catch sight of the deputy. You slow down past the Sheriff station, wondering whether someone had let Whitey out of the cell yet, but there was no sign of him. 

You tie up your horse and begin collecting your supplies. As you are about to enter the last store you hear someone cough behind you, as a way to get your attention. You hope that it is Whitey but are greeted by a broad woman wearing a suit. She folds her arms as you turn to face her. She looks you up and down and a smirk begins to spread across her face “You must be Y/N? Alice’s niece” 

“And you are?” Unaware of what she wants from you, you cross your arms- matching her intimidating stance. 

“My name’s Mary, I’m the one who found Whitey locked up in the cell last night. He told me all about you” She laughs as she speaks, clearly amused at your behaviour. 

“Oh he did? Well what did he say exactly, if I may ask?”

“Oh just that a beautiful women arrived in town last night, claiming to be Alice Fletcher’s niece and then stole his favourite guns, which i now know to be true.” 

“Beautiful huh? Well I can’t argue that the boy clearly has good taste” 

“He sure does” Mary winks at you, before tilting her hat down “It was good to meet you Y/N.”

“Same to you.” You watch her walk away, before laughing and entering into the store. 

After finally collecting all the supplies, you make your way back to your horse and begin to tie them onto the back of your saddle.

“Those are some pretty nice guns you got there.” You smirk at the familiar voice and continue tying up the supplies.

“Why thank you! I got them from a handsome young man last night.”

“Oh really? Well i’m sure he thought they looked great on you, but he must be really missing such good looking guns”

You turn to face him and place your hand on your hip “Well if he misses them, he should come over to me and get them.” 

You watch the flirtatious smirk spread across his face “He might come and do just that.” As he reaches you, he leans towards you, his face only inches apart from yours. He slides his hand down your back and across your hip, pulling you closer to him. His other hand traces the back of your neck, and you tremble at his every touch. You begin to lean your face up towards him, dying to connect your lips to his. When suddenly he pulls back, sliding his gun belts off of your hips and your necklace from around your neck. You were genuinely surprised at his level of stealth and he chuckles at your reaction. 

“Okay you can keep your guns, but give me back my necklace, it belonged to my mother.” You were no longer joking around, that necklace was too sentimental. 

Newts POV

Alby called a meeting, which included the whole of the glade- except for Y/N and Shelly, as the meeting was to address them.

Alby explained the whole scenario, as well as both Y/N and Shelly's side of the story, which resulted in a huge debate. The majority of the gladers sided with Y/N, as she had been here longer and nothing this severe had ever happened before. But the odd few defended Shelly, because of the scene Y/N caused at the bonfire or because they had a crush on her, so didn't want to listen to reason. You could tell Alby was fed up with the endless bickering so he spoke up, instantly silencing everyone "the matter is never going to be resolved like this, we need some sort of proof, otherwise the wrong person may end up being punished"

Until now Chuck hadn't voiced his opinion, which was strange seeing how much he cares for Y/N.

You watch as he steps forward and let's out an awkward cough to gain the attention of the gladers. He looks to the ground, as if he is afraid or ashamed at what he is about to say "Y/N is telling the truth. I saw the whole thing"

You are taken aback by his remark, confused and angry at why he didn't tell you what happened last night, when Y/N was trapped in the maze "Chuck, if what you're saying is true, why didn't you tell me beforehand?" He looks up at you, you can see the desperation in his eyes, instantly making you back down.

"When I was out looking for Y/N I found her, but she was on the ground, arguing with Shelly. I watched as Shelly dragged her into the maze and beat her, leaving her there to die. I ran over to help Y/N but by the time I got there it was too late and the doors to the maze closed. I confronted Shelly, but she held a knife to my throat threatening to kill me the same way she did Y/N" A tear leaks down his cheek and he wipes it away, determined to stay strong. "I thought there would be no way that Y/N would survive in the maze, otherwise i would've fought for her until the end"

You stride over to chuck and rest a hand on his shoulder to let him know you were okay with what he did. You could tell how difficult it must have been for him to decide what to do being in this predicament. He looks up at you, a grateful smile on his face.

"How do we know he's not just making this up to clear Y/N name?" Gally intervenes, causing you to roll your eyes. A few of the gladers nod in approval at his statement.

Alby steps up, an idea forming in his mind "both Y/N and Shelly told me a story of what happened that night, in which none of you- other than me and Newt have heard the full account of. Now I'll ask Chuck to give a detailed description of the event, including the actions and words spoken by both girls and whichever story it matches up to, we will know who is telling the truth."

Alby receives a variety of nods and cheers of approval, before Chuck goes on to give a detailed account of that dreaded night- which just so happened to perfectly match up to Y/N.
