Now, of course Claire is wearing her thistle ring when she is reunited with Bree, right? It’s very clearly her thick, silver, new thistle ring:

Now, here’s a new promo shot from 4x09, of them reunited:

And upon closer inspection...

that’s not actually her thistle ring!!!

THAT ring is undeniably, 100% the Author’s Attic “Claire’s ring”!

But then later in the episode, Bree sees Claire’s thisle ring, and it’s back to the original:

My eagle eyes were surprised once I realized what I was seeing. But I have a theory for why the Author’s Attic ring is in the promo pics and not the actual episode. I think that the production had actually decided to use the Author’s Attic ring as their thistle ring (since it’s original-canon, created from the original text, before the show). Maybe they even filmed a good chunk of footage with this ring--clearly from multiple episodes, if it just made its debut in promo pics for episode 9.

But then they changed their minds and decided to make something entirely original (i.e. something that wasn’t already licensed and available for purchase, not to mention that an original design would allow them to add to their own merch,,,). So they must’ve reshot scenes with the new thistle ring (the bath scene, for instance), used pick-up shots, or used CGI to add in the new thistle ring. A convoluted theory...but whatever the reason, I think it’s kind of cool that it made it into the promo pics, at the very least.

Did anyone else spot this?

*EDIT* Tipped off to a bunch of old set pics that had Cait wearing the ring, greeting fans. Went on a mad chase, aaaaand...
