Every time Count Arganan looked at his niece, he couldnāt help but think of her mother. She looked so much like her, pretty silver hair and all. The way she walked, the way she spoke...even her determination to go outside the castle all the time reminded Arganan of Calistaās mother. Sheād been so kind and gentleājust like how Calista was.
And all the Count did to his niece was hurt her, ever since Calistaās parents died. He wanted to stop hurting her, he really did, but he sometimes just couldnāt get himself to stop, and the urge for power took over him more often than the urge to maintain good relations with his niece. He knew it was his fault that their relationship was full of holes. It was mostly his fault, really, and he wasnāt sure how to repair it.
So every time he looked at Calista now, heād think of both his niece and her mother, and it would hurt him to think of either of them.
