Pillars of Eternity OC: Eresh
Name: Eresh Eyefall Race: Meadow Folk (Wael Godlike) Age: 26 years old Culture: Deadfire Archipelago Background: Aristocrat Class: Priest of Berath Starting dispositions: Stoic, rational, cruel
Backstory: Eresh was born into a noble family, of parents originally from Aedyr, having moved to Nekataka, in the islands of the Deadfire, before she was born. Her father, disappointed not to have had an heir, left the education of his daughter in the hands of his wife and servants.
When she is still a baby, her mother, secretly worshipping Skaen, tries to sacrifice her to her god by fire. Eresh is saved at the last minute by her father and the authorities of the city having thwarted the secrets of the sect, alive but with a scar now covering part of the left half of her face. His mother will be executed during the confrontation.
Fallen into disgrace, her father still wants to preserve his daughter from the gaze and comments of high society. He entrusts her to the Berathian priests who bring her all the necessary knowledge to make her a warrior priestess of Berath herself. But, despite all the precautions taken by her father, the fault caused by her mother finally reaches her and Eresh develops a deep hatred for dishonesty, criminals and all that she considers 'bad'. Her own definition of right and wrong is turned upside down, her cruelty causing her a great deal of concern within the cult of Berath.
Despite this, her situation and apparent maturity somewhat restored the family's image. When he returns to his father's house, he arranges a marriage with a young man from a noble family recently arrived in the Deadfire, a union that should allow his own family to regain a comfortable status. Eresh accepts, first for his father, then for herself after falling in love with Ekias, her future husband.
But as both consummate their marriage before its time, Wael decides to reveal the true nature of Eresh: she is in fact a Godlike of the god of mysteries... Eyes of different colors, shapes and sizes open at various places in her body in overwhelming pain, scrutinizing their owner and Ekias, who screams and runs away.
Eresh, unconscious, dreams of strange places where curious creatures prowl between cyclopean buildings, improbable shapes and colors float in the air and his own vision is distorted by impossible angles.
When she wakes up, she finds herself in a rocking bed with her father at her side, dictating meaningless instructions. But all she has to do is look at her arms and her memories come back... Eyes of different colors, shapes and sizes look at her. They are fewer and less wide-open than the first time, but they are there.
Her father reassures her as best he can: her arms are easy to hide and they are now sailing away from Nekataka. After this second scandal, he preferred to return to Aedyr to protect his daughter and himself.
As the years go by, Eresh learns to hide his eyes and no longer fear strange dreams and to keep himself away from the rest of the world. She is considered cold and distant, which makes her, in the eyes of others, a devoted priestess of Berath.
But Berath speaks little to her in the face of Eresh's cruelty. Wael, however, has fun reminding her of who she is, reveals incomprehensible things to her and tells her about an incoherent destiny.
Tired of her life with her father and wanting to regain Berath's attention, she decides to leave in search of the duality of her god. Dyrwood is her destination...
