thinking about how james and oliver were in the end each other’s villain. thinking about “when friends become enemies, there is no limit to the damage they can do” because ultimately, their predicaments were caused invariably by each other. thinking about how oliver always assumed that he was james’s side-kick, on stage and otherwise, and therefore never realised the full extent of the power he had over james, what his actions with meredith would lead to (perhaps getting close to wren, going after richard at her behest, richard’s accusation taunting him), but his role as the singular love interest in james’s eyes being what drove most of james’s actions. taking wren up to his room the way oliver had gone up to meredith’s room, kissing meredith after class when he knew both of them would just think about oliver. thinking about oliver taking the fall because of and for james, keeping his promise from moments before his arrest. james being eaten alive by his guilt because oliver refused his help.
