the soul is obvs a veryy present thing in jjk (mahito’s ideology regarding them & his technique, the constant dialogue linking mind, body, & soul, yaga’s technique in how he creates sentient cursed corpses) and it’s virtually nowhere in ajin which does make sense because it IS very surgical? i guess (kei aiming for medical school, the experiments they do on both kei & tanaka, a lot of the government VS. ajin conflicts, ogura as a character)—and the closest i think they come to mentioning anything even remotely spiritual is ogura in S2E2 after asking kei & kou why people die and then ignoring their answers to tell them “It’s because that’s what the universe decided.”

soooo because of toki being my guilty pleasure crossover i do want to carry over that pretty much nonexistent rs w the soul over to jjk just to see how it fits..... BUT like not completely you’ll see Ok. because in jjk souls are said to be the culmination of your inner characteristics, all facets of your personality [1], and in ajin black ghosts mimic the core personality of their hosts [2], i think i want toki’s ghost to act as his ‘soul,’ as such. it’s made of the same black matter that makes up him as an ajin, even has some sort of will of its own in how it moves around and both mimics his speech/has some of its own, so i think it makes sense (but also i don’t really care that much if it doesn’t)!!!!

with this redefinition of the soul—how would that work with mahito? i’m not toooo sure if they’re ever gonna actually cross paths, but honestly i do want to try and fit it in (early shibuya?) just because of this lol... ANW ANW if mahito can ‘see’ the soul, if his whole technique in general allows him to reshape them, what do you do against someone without one? or without one you can see, at least—bec i do also think that it isn’t visible, because it just is the ghost, not inside of him or it like the soul is ‘inside’ a person yk.. in a way, toki’s IBM itself is his soul, i guess.... which in itself links to kenjaku saying “the body is the soul, and the soul the body” [3]. i think it might just end up meaning that toki’s like... mahito’s own personal judas 😭 there’s a million ways he could kill him, but he’d just come right back again, and there’s no way to actually get rid of him because how do you touch a soul when it’s everywhere and also spilling out of the arm you just cut off or something. YK? it’s like trying to catch smoke.

and then onto him & his ghost.... he’s known about it since he was aroundd eight, and i like to think their relationship is a mix of sato & okuyama with their respective ghosts. like that’s his frienddd guys they love each otherrrr trust me trust me!!!!!!! there’s this thing between kei & sato on the roof of that one gov. building where the ghosts’ head collide and some of their memories flow into each others minds which i LIKE and so will be stealing.. but toki’s doesn’t have a head bec i thought it’d b cool LOL so instead a direct hit through the ‘heart’ (or SOUL!!!!!!!) would both dissolve his ghost & have the same effect that the head thing does in ajin.
