        It all starts with a set of instructions that needs to be executed to attain a certain goal. Google, like any other program, began with an algorithm. Google started as a search engine that ranks web pages by relevancy and importance to the key words/phrases encoded by searchers.

        If Tim Berners-Lee's World Wide Web was the information universe, Google became its cartographer. Google begins with a process known as crawling. Crawling is done by Google's spidering software called Googlebot. It jumps from one link to another, gathering URLs and its data. After crawling, the data is indexed, and ranked based on relevancy, importance, and popularity. By mapping it, Google moved information effortlessly to the point at which it was needed at exactly the time it was required. (Edwards, 2011) The Googlebot process was so effective in the delivery of information, 'Google' is now a widely recognised & accepted verb.

        In the technological world, there is a certain theory called Six Degrees of Separation. Simply put, it states that due to technological advances related to social interactions and/or communications, everything/everyone is only a maximum of six steps away from one another. Through the search relevancy algorithm, Google carefully rearranged an informational world where this theory is applied every second of every day. Search for an article about 'camels' and you'll find yourself 3 clicks later, reading about endothermic animals and their practice of vasoconstriction, the reduction of blood flow to the skin as a response to reduce heat loss. The amount of ordered information delivered by Google to its users speeds up the learning process which ultimately revolutionised the human thinking process. 'Googling' became a necessity, an action performed by millions every single day. Google is used by the world to process over 40,000 search queries every second on average.

        From a simple BackRub, Google became your companion for almost anything and expanded to cater your other non-search related needs. Instant international communication was provided by Google Translate, steadily erasing language barriers. Business establishments are gaining recognition by partnering with Google Maps & Google Ads. Social circles are expanding and continuously exchanging information through Google Plus and Google Mail. Up until recently, YouTube collaborated with Google and integrated Google Plus in the YouTube user experience. Group work efficiency and collaboration was improved by the accessibility of a document through Google Docs. Even on the road, Google is working to improve human life with Google Maps and Waze.

       Nowadays, a Google search about tourism in Croatia will show you airline ads in any other ad-catering website you visit after that search. Thanks to Google Analytics, Google can now project your interests based on the context of your searches AND geographical location, and send related ads to your way to maximise user interest. As a companion, Google now gives you what you want before you know it.

       Technology should do the hard work so people can get on doing the things that make them happiest in life. (Page, 2014) Ever since its foundation in the 1990s, Google has done nothing less but make every advance and every upgrade with the goal in mind to increase the productivity and efficiency of the human race. Google cleared the distraction brought upon by loads of information in the Web and gave you the information you precisely need to contribute to society. Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin did not just win the search wars of the 1990s by creating the powerful search engine system called Google, they built a company that would fix large-scale problems affecting society and terraform the informational landscape. (Edwards, 2011) I'd say I'm feeling lucky.
