"Still life, Living infront of me I held my breath in solidarity It laughed out loud" Yesterday at the Dance Gathering 2018; checking out Ayo Akinwande's installation, Papa Omotayo was asked to sign the condolence register in honor of random death counts unrecorded and uncelebrated daily in Nigeria. A simple noble necessary act embed within the brilliance of the theatrics of the whole festival. The form lying dead in the casket had speakers attached to it that made sounds. All of this was happening just about 10 feet from the morgue on broad street. Now i don't know if that part was intentional but while all these loose associations formed, Papa wrote "Nigeria is in Hibernation. Death is a state of mind". The polymath unconsciously reminded of the flux that everything is in; the performance artist nearby whose act didn't stop through out the show circled past us silently, mute, talking to and answering no one - again a reminder of the different format of stillness embedded in action. The artist passed me the register and i wrote "Nigeria like energy can never be created nor destroyed. It can only be transformed". I only meant to wax lyrical but truth filters itself and sluggishly arrives somehow teaching and reminding that, Still Life is still Life. #DailyAesthetics #MonochromeLagos #LooseAssociations #DustyFootPhilosophies #EverythingisEverything #ArtTheWindow #TheTruthEmbeddedEverywhere (at Lagos, Nigeria)
