Do you ever plan to write a book of your own? Poetry, prose, I don’t care but I’d love to drown in your words and ideas 🖤
asks like this mean so much to me, dear. thank you. i'm flattered and honored. being a writer is one of the most fundamental and visceral parts of who i am.
i think i've always been one, and since i can remember. i really believe some people are born this way, touched by something, coursed with something - art perhaps. i really believe writing to be not so much a matter of actual ink and skill, but more of a constant state of the soul that needs to manifest itself, and right from the start, choosing only much later a specific mean to fulfill this restless imperative that festers in us.
some find relief in canvas, some in marble, some in words - but the first manifestation of the artistic heart remains the same for everyone and has very little to do with a specific craft. i so vividly remember, even before actually learning how to read and write, how i was already experiencing the world as if through paper and ink, a chorus for a sky and words blooming like roses - a ravenous fascination with the nature of life, the human spirit, a beauty so painful to make a child feel like inventing song for the first time in the endless history of singing.
i started my first novel at seven, the second at twelve. they reflected who i was back then, so i inevitably grew out of them with fondness. at fourteen i had a revelation about the novel i'm still writing to this day. at sixteen i switched languages, english becoming the arald of my emotions. even if the fundamental idea has remained the same through the years, it grew larger, heavier, it shifted dramatically as i shifted, mirroring my every metamorphosis.
a book, but also a constant penelopian work of weaving and unweaving lives upon lives.
the more i grow closer to who i truly am, the more it is becoming really something worth committing a life to and i am not saying it because it's a creature i am bearing. i write to satisfy an intimate craving of mine. others come only later, more as witnesses of a mortal cataclysm than as readers.
my story with this book resembles a religion, it's something i believe in fervently, and yet it's one of the most terrifying and difficult things i've ever experienced. it is both a love story and a duel to death. i wouldn't be me without actually writing it, and i've been attempting at it my whole life. only recently i've been feeling myself enough to actually, perhaps, succeed.
i hope my little reverie wasn't a bother, i didn’t mean to veer. i actually never talk about this monster of mine out loud, i don't know if out of respect, decency or shyness honestly.
by the way, here's my lazy writing blog if you want to read a few little things i felt like publishing dear: @mostruositas :)
