Out of curiosity, what are the parallels between Gondor and Mughal India?
Parallels isnât really the word for any of the empires Iâve mentioned itâs more like- oh Iâm do not have the energy to get to this finish line. I shouldnât have specified Mughal only, there were other eras of India that also have applicable elements to them but Mughal Architecture was one of the first deep dives I went on to really isolate what Gondorian cities looked like and then fashions also came with it. The logic was âhighly profitable, agriculturally based, relatively peaceful period with somewhat equal and egalitarian systems of government and a technologically and philosophically advanced culture (to the extent of essentially industrialisation) is very much what Gondor would have had to have and maintained to endure so longâ Also the Taj Mahal is so iconically visually correct for Osgiliath style architecture nâsuch. ALSO ALSO lots of astronomical observatories being built, ALSO advancements in chemistry and high levels of hygiene- it ticks a lot of the boxes for a very advanced, long lived historical empire that HAD explosives but did still use swords but NOT plate armour. There is never a mention of plate armour in any of the descriptions of Gondorâs military. I tend to essentially hold the Mughal empire fashion styles as being reminiscent of Gondor at itâs height, with the kings and stewards both.Â
