Now, Asha Vimal, it’s been entirely too long. Would you mind terribly if I kissed you?”

"Asha!" he yelped. "Asha, it's me! No one's going to hurt you! It's just me..." His voice took on a slightly pleading edge as the once-proud Last of the Time Lords stood awkwardly in the middle of a dingy bathroom, soaked head to toe and cringing slightly before the naked ball of fury that was Asha Vimal. His lively hair was matted down in front with water. "I was only trying to help," he added weakly.

At the sound of his voice, she froze, the memories of her recent escape now flooding her mind. Thin hands moved to clutch at her own shaking form as she dropped her head, wet pieces of hair moving to block her her face from his view.

For a moment, she simply stood there, staring. He looked...different...much more..real. of course, he had always been real to her, but this was different. Cautiously, she reached up to poke him. Before, when they had touched, it felt like nothing but warmth at her hands. Now? Now there was flesh, and cloth along with that familiar warmth. Immediately, she threw herself at him, her arms wrapping tightly about his neck as tears of relief began to flow silently down her cheeks.

"I..I was worried you might've gone for good this time..." she whispered, burying her face in his neck.

What is the point in having all this power and all this knowledge if I can’t even save my dearest friend? What is the point in showing me this? Why must I be a silent witness to this atrocity?? Is this punishment somehow? Not that I don’t deserve it…

She cried all night after they left and I couldn’t bring myself to go to her. I was too ashamed of how I’d failed. I suppose I failed her twice that night by being a bloody coward. Oh I am a coward.

There must be some way to change this signal. There must be some way for me to become real to that world. If I could I know that I would break every oath to myself, every vow I’ve ever taken. I would burn that place and we would never look back. She’s only a child for gods sakes!
