INTERLUDE UNLOCKED. SPOILERS AHEAD!
The harmless footprints on the sand had been washed away by the clear inconsiderate waves. It was a horrid reminder that regardless of one's act, within time it will be forgotten and unabashedly buried with no proof of such life existing in the end. Even so, numerous instances of surpassed miracles have evidently transpired as the years went by. The boy admitted this to himself, yet he still did not doubt that the marks he left with his steel boots on the wet sand will soon fade, and perhaps replaced by someone else's.
He held the weapon firmly upon his bruised hand, doused with the blood of many and his own. It was a product of seemingly unending violence, a natural aspect of war that a fighter like him could not come to deny. Lives were taken, men were deprived of seconds to further waste. There was no reason to lament. How many people have died by his hands? If he compelled himself to count, he would lose his mind and crumble beyond it. After all, it had always been like this.
"So, what do you require of me?"
The boy gazed at the ever-moving tide before him and spoke, "Autonomy."
With an astounded expression, the creature laughed mockingly. The boy did not even look at him. The stare was sturdily dedicated to the dawn in front of them instead. How conceited. Somehow this prompted him to inquire further when he normally would not otherwise. For the sake of satiating his own wicked curiosity, elaboration is a must. The boy has no other choice but to reveal his own intentions after all or suffer the lack of assistance and accept the inevitability of his emptiness. How cruel would that be? This, in other words, provide a visible support to the boy's ideal. If he had come this far, then he must be willing to do his utmost to receive the creature's guidance and gracious gift regardless of what is needed in return.
"And this wish is deserving to be heard for what reason, I wonder?"
Golden eyes possessed a determined glint. The boy's glance could only belong to one who's destined to become nothing but a person of regal nature. It is a fate designated from birth, a glory made true through the manifestation of the signs. It was sung by the bards, commanded by The Fili, foretold by a banfháith, seen by the druids and written by the poets. They all saw the same star and prayed the words 'Imbas forosnai'.
You are not a King. You are The King.
"For a man cannot live without love, and a man cannot love without anyone to love."
The creature grimaced, disgusted by the words he had the displeasure of hearing. He expected that the boy would state the obvious and give an expected reason for the arrival. Instead, he was met with a golden surprise. He was told Kings were far from emphatic. He had been close to assuming the same from the way the boy stood; shoulder raised and armored back isolated from his companions. Not that he had anyone left to begin with.
"...and the price you are willing to pay, Boy King?"
The boy intended to humor the creature with a low jest. However, that would be extremely foolish. He hoped to reveal himself free from any chains and hindrances. That is why he would not speak of the wealth he had accumulated, nor would he come to share some knowledge. The creature would have no need for gold and resources, and anything the boy could bring himself to tell, the creature would have already known from miles and millennium away.
"My life. You must surmise the extent and depth of this. I have no one to abandon, no one to come home to. Were I to disappear, I will not be remembered or sought. Standing near you, breathing and arrogantly alive, is naught but an insult to those who have died in vain for I have no wish to further live beyond this. To once again seek the return of the sun but no one to sing its beauty towards. I thought if I survived, that would be enough. I could not die before for I could not abandon my people. However, I am now alone. Everyone has perished, and a King is not a King without his fellows to protect."
The creature trembled and had recognized fear for the first time.
A human who have nothing to lose could commit the gravest of crimes after all.
