azz's lovely ask made me think a lot about the fact that in truth, serpent knows very little about the world. due to the fact that she was sold to a wealthy man when she was still a child, she never attended school nor was she given any sort of education: the man and his family only bothered to superficially teach her how to read, write and then do very basic mathematic operations but throughout all the years she spent with them inside of the pet cage, she was never given a book to read nor a documentary to watch. even after she killed the entire family at the cusp of adulthood and then ran away only to be approached by phantom entertainment, little changed. of course, she now had more freedom to indulge in her passions, but it was frustrating for her to realize just how lacking she was when compared to everyone else ... whenever she did buy a book, she'd just give up on reading it after the first chapters because it would require too much attention and mental energy from her. because of this, she mostly tended to buy books with photos or pictures on the side, so that she could connect the writing with the visual information provided by the pictures.
