The Monkey Dances

Kyouko had felt like Heaven’s Doors had opened when she stumbled across the perfect book for Ritsu.
It hadn’t even been intentional. In her life before, as she liked to refer to everything that happened to her before her accident, Kyouko hadn’t been much of a reader. However, in the after, the doctor’s recommended that she read as much as possible, in order to build up her synapses and help her brain kick back into gear.
In the before, Kyouko would have never been able to keep still enough to read an entire book; plus, reading had been one of weakest skills. Her information processing was decent, but the abstract nature of literature had always thrown her off. In the after, well...Kyouko didn’t like being told what to do, but she also didn’t like being unable to do something and she found herself with a nose in a book far more often than her teenage self would’ve been able to handle. At 32, she was finally acting like a “mom,” in more ways than one.
It was during an outing to find a new book that she had come across the perfect book for Ritsu. She knew of his literary tastes because of how many books he borrowed and returned to Shigure’s house (which, she would never admit how often she was there and she’d also never admit how many of his books she’d read, too).
At first, Kyouko had made her way to Ayame’s shop in search of him. Through various conversations with Shigure and Ristu himself, she gathered that he was now living with Ayame, but when she arrived, the white haired beauty had sent her somewhere else. With gorgeous handwriting, he had written down an address nearby that Ritsu rented.
That was weird, she thought to herself, as she walked down the crosswalk and adjusted her grip on the bag. I could’ve sworn that Ayame and Ritsu were living together... There had been a client in with Ayame when she had entered, so their exchange had been rushed, but why else would he scribble down an address if they weren’t living together?
Turning the corner, she made her way to the apartment building and found the door. That was weird...it felt like music was pulsating from behind the door. Did she have the right place? She had never taken Ritsu for the type of person to blast his music, but what did she know.
She knocked, but there was no answer. Maybe the music was too loud to hear her? On a whim, she tried the door handle and was surprised that it was actually open. Shigure kept his door open very often, too. Didn’t these Soumas know about the dangers in the world?
What she saw inside absolutely shocked her. Ritsu was...dancing? And well, too. This wasn’t like a person just flailing around and hoping for the best; he had legitimate moves. Kyouko was so shocked she just stood in place for a moment. But she didn’t want to interrupt him and she quickly moved to the side, silently closing the door behind her, continuing to watch. She would let him know she was there once the song was over. It’d be rude to interrupt in the middle of a dance number, right?
