âthis song is about this exâ
âthis album is mostly about this exâ
Actually the theme of the album that i havenât seen anyone really bring up is losing yourself in a relationship(s) and the storm of your life.
Fortnight: âI love you, itâs ruining my lifeâ
TTPD: âI think things I never say like who uses typewriters anywayâ
MBPBHFT: âIâm Queen of sand castles he destroysâ
âOnce I fix me heâs gonna miss meâ
Down Bad: âDid you take all my old clothes? Just to leave me naked and aloneâ
So Long, London: âI kept calm and carried the weight of the rift/ pulled him in tighter each time he was drifting away/ my spine split from carrying us up the hill/ wet through my clothes, weary bones caught the chillâ
âAnd Iâm just getting color back into my faceâ
FOTS: âNow pretty baby iâm running back home to youâ
âIn the shade of how he was feelingâ
âCamera flashes/welcome bashes/get the matches/ toss the ashes off the ledgeâ
âAs I said in my letters now that I know better I will never lose my baby againâ
âwatched me daily disappearing for just one glimpse of his smileâ
GAS: âAm I allowed to cryâ
TSMWEL: âI wouldâve died for your sins instead I just died insideâ
HDIE: âGuess who we ran into at the shops/ walking in circles like she was lostâ
There are so many little points on this album that speak to the feeling of losing yourself again and being frustrated with that. I feel like the album is about Taylor herself more than the fraught relationships sheâs writing about which is why the songs hardly have one solid muse. Sheâs dizzy and lost and confused and everything is swirling and blending together. Thatâs why thereâs so much rage screaming throughout even the saddest songs. Sheâs pointing fingers but everyoneâs faces merge into one. It really does feel manic and panicky.
Just my interpretation â¤ď¸
