Sansa sat in the designated chair beside the hospital bed, like she had most days and nights since the attack. Technically since she wasn’t family, and visiting hours were only so long, she’d been sneaking in out of hours whilst Petyr slept and the nurses hadn’t noticed just yet.
Her mind was torn in two, before the incident Sansa had been building up the courage to tell Petyr that she wanted to stop. She didn’t like the job anymore, she no longer wanted to be a part of such a dark business. And here she was, with the perfect escape. The man wouldn’t ever know, considering the amnesia he was now suffering.
The difficult part was going through with it, as when she’d found the man that had taken her in years before, battered and broken, Sansa couldn’t step away. She wanted to run far from the life of dingy motels and murder for hire, to settle down rather than living day to day on the run.
Crossing her legs, Sansa rested her head in her hand as she stared out the window and into the dark, contemplating her options with the faint buzz and beep of machinery in her ears. The doctors had told her that Petyr would be discharged in a week or so, but he was a ghost to the outside world, no lawful identity to carry on with. Leaving him in such a state would be leaving him to fail without her.
At first she’d believed it to be a mugging gone wrong, a gang had targeted the man late at night when she was buying their dinner for the night, but something was nagging at the back of her mind, like she was missing something. Warily, in one of the hours she did leave him alone, Sansa had put out a message to one of their contacts from a burner phone and was currently awaiting a response. She couldn’t help checking the phone every few minutes despite no vibrations running through her fingers, she just needed to know whether it was safe or not before she made her decision to leave.
