I love a good band discovery. Folks, check out @themantras , out of North Carolina. . I actually first saw them last weekend at Bears Picnic #musicfestival that @escapermusic also played. I caught their late night set and was impressed by their ability to groove, jam and conjure... coincidentally I found myself at the @phish show in Raleigh, NC last night and they were playing a post show downtown. Mixing in a Beastie Boys tribute into their set, no less. It was a perfect icing to the Phish cake I had just come from. Yes, Phish cakes can have icing? Funky, groovy, spiritual, go get it bad assery. My type of shizz. The Mantras were the first band I booked that I didn't know personally prior to the show. They taught me a lot about professionalism, doing the damn thing, and the balance between courtesy and looking out for your interests. They also taught me what live music can do at the 211 level of my ongoing education... they showed me the possibilities. This Saturday, I've signed up for another lesson at The Tally Ho Learning Annex.
