Dios, when did the town hall bell get so damn loud?!
That was almost a car accident. I'm okay, just sitting down outside park to shake...For that matter, when did the bells on the ice cream cart get so shrill?
And another set of swelled egos punctured. Now to see if the peanut will let me keep going long enough to call Avelyn's office. Maybe hearing from a parent would help. Probably not, but I have to try.

Melissa looked at the clock again, nervous as hell. She needed John home, five minutes ago. Stiles had suddenly left last night, panicked, and hadn't come back, though the text she sent got an 'I'm fine' back, which she didn't believe any more than she did the last time he tried that line on her. Hell she still didn't believe that the 'accident' wasn't more than half on purpose, but she would never, ever bring that up, not even with John, because that would break him, and she loved them both too damn much to do that to either of them.
She sighed. Part of her hoped that she was right, but there was that worry that made her hope she was wrong.
John got home as quickly as he could, not bothering to strip out of his jacket or boots as he entered the house. "Melissa?" He set his keys in the dish they belonged in, and went in search of his wife, worried and more than a little strained. It was very unlike her to call him home in the middle of the day, and - unfortunately - with how things had been going lately... his first thoughts were not good ones.
Melissa sagged as a weird mix of relief and a tighter knot of stress pulled at her. "I'm in the living room. She got up, nerves drawing lines on her face. She could hear the worry, the panic in his voice. "I'm ok." She came out, immediately hugging him; what if she was right? And moreover, what if he was against all of it....
He moved forward, wrapping his arms around her as he pressed his face into her hair, breathing in deeply. "Okay." He murmured, softly. "Okay." A pause, and then, slightly tense - "Anything from Stiles?" He hadn't heard anything... and he was genuinely worried right now.
Melissa shook her head "Other than getting a text of 'I'm Fine' earlier I haven't heard anything, but at least we know that's him?" Her voice was muffled in his shirt. "I...I need to tell you something and for the first time since the wedding I'm actually nervous."
John sighed, closing his eyes and pressing his face against her hair as his shoulders sagged, a little. He was worried about his boy... but as Melissa kept talking, he was pretty worried about her, too. "What is it?" He asked, shifting back a bit and reaching down to touch her cheek equal parts worried and curious.
Melissa took a breath, holding it, meeting and searching his eyes. There wasn't any easy way to say it other than blurt it out. "I...John, I'm late. By more than a week at this point." She took the breath back in, bracing.
John blinked, taking a moment for his mind to switch gears, and then he stared. "All... right. That's - not normal?" He hazarded, slightly bemused. He wasn't an expert, but he knew that cycles could be slightly flighty things sometimes... and he wasn't sure what she was trying to say, though he did have a suspicion starting to grow...
She pressed her lips together, taking another breath, taking his hand and leading him up the stairs. She'd taken a pregnancy test just before texting him, but hadn't been able to even look at it, nerves and worry getting the better of her. She seriously didn't think that John would leave if she was pregnant, but get worried? Upset? Maybe.
She silently picked up the empty box when they got to their room. "I took it but I haven’t been able to even look..."
He followed her, hand lacing with hers as he followed her upstairs. He leaned in, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Hey. I'm here. We'll look together, alright?" He smiled a bit, slightly wryly. "After all, this is my fault anyway, isn't it?" He noted, with good humor, a shiver of excitement and nerves racing down his spine. He'd never anticipated having another child...but the thought wasn't a bad one.
She met his eyes the beginnings of a smile starting to over around the edges of her lips. "I think I can claim at least half fault if I am and this happened when I think it did." A flash of memory from their weekend in D.C brought a light flush to her cheeks and something closer to a real smile. "You're really okay with this?"
"I really am." He agreed, smiling slightly as he leaned down, stealing a kiss. "And it's all conjecture until we know, anyway." He pointed out, eyes soft and amused. "So... together?" He questioned, glancing back down at the test.
She took a deep breath and nodded, nerves on just wanting to know overtaking her worry as it dissipated, the easy amusement and...Anticipation? In John's eyes easing all of that away. He pulled the recapped stick out of the box again, turning over...A plus sign in stark blue showed in the results window. Melissa blinked. "I'm pregnant."
John stared at the plus sign, and then broke into a grin, turning and cupping her face in his hands as he kissed her, solid and warm and happy. "Congratulations, Mom." He murmured, then just wrapped his arms around her and held her closer, burying his face against her hair. He wasn't a fool - he knew there'd be complications and this wouldn't be easy... but he wanted it.
Melissa's smile went huge, and kind of silly and watery at the same time. She'd always wanted a big family, but after David that went out the window. This was later, kind of an oops, but it was also a real gift. She kissed John back, pulling back finally. "So...How do we want to tell the boys?"
John held her, comfortably, and considered the question. "I think they're both old enough to handle the news well enough. We should tell them together." He decided, calmly, and rested his forehead against hers, unable to keep from grinning - a little punch-drunk with it, honestly.
She glanced up at him, catching his grin and grinned back, biting her lip. "Let's wait a couple days. I know these things are accurate, but I want the blood test to be sure, okay?"
"Alright. We can do that." He agreed, with a small smile, his hands sliding up her arms, then back down again, a shiver of excitement coiling in his chest. He was going to be a dad. Again. "Heaven help us both if it's another Stiles." He murmured, amusement sparking in his voice - and fondness. Then again, he knew exactly how to raise a Stiles...
Melissa nodded, then giggled, eyes sparking. "It could be a Stiles, or a Scott..." Her grin went a little watery. "Or a girl..."
John blinked, and murmured in response. "I have no idea which one's scarier. I think I'm terrified of all of them." He teased, though the thought of having a little girl was - kind of charming. A little Melissa...
Melissa grinned, wrapping her arms around him and cuddling close. "I don't care what it is as long as it's healthy." Her voice was quiet. "Thank you."
"For what?" He wondered, quirking an eyebrow, though he was still smiling down at her.
She snuggles a little closer, wriggling a little to get comfortable. "For just..." She stopped herself, looking up and feeling the last of the worry and stress slide away. "For being you, that's what."
He chuckled, then leaned in and stole another kiss, soft and sweet. "Right back at you. Love you." He murmured, fondly.
She leaned into the kiss, soft, comfortable. "Love you too."
