She made a solitary figure out there, on the balcony. The light from the open doors gave her hair a golden cast, softened the lines of her face. She might have been a ghost. Armand paused in the room behind her for a couple of seconds, knowing she could sense his presence, but not quite wanting to speak to her and break the silence, the muted rush of traffic.
Eventually he stepped through the doors, one hand pushing the light curtains aside and turned his eyes upward, following Allesandra’s gaze. A smile graced his lips. This far from the city centre, practically on the fringes of the Bois de Vincennes, the stars were easier to pick out than at his house in Saint-Germain – the house which Lestat’s court had all but colonised, though he generally kept such thoughts under wraps while he was there.
“I’m afraid the light pollution of this century puts something of a damper on things,” he said quietly.
