I completely understand their anger. Bjorn especially. The younger boys didn't really know Ragnar and were probably feeling conflicted over the man they'd heard about VS how he'd treated them & Aslaug. Bjorn already understood their father was flawed but probably never guessed he'd abandon all of them for what was essentially a bruised ego. It's painfully disappointing and the total opposite of what a good man does. As for Lagertha I think she was disgusted by his lack of concern for the people in Kattegat and of course for covering up the Wessex massacre. They all lost a great deal of respect for him, and it seemed realistic for that to come through. Doesn't mean they didn't love him. But he shouldn't be able to sail back into their lives and pick right up as if he hasn't traumatized them all.I completely understand their anger. Bjorn especially. The younger boys actually did know Ragnar, or at least Ubbe and Hvitserk did. Ubbe had just as much time with Ragnar as he had with Bjorn before Lagertha and Bjorn left, so no, he did know Ubbe and Hvitserk. And as I stated in my post, I do understand how Ubbe felt and Ubbe still did act like he loved Ragnar, as did Bjorn, in many ways, too. I actually had come to understand the abandonment issues a lot more, and how it wasn’t hate but hurt. But, I’m going to comment on what else you said, because you seem to be watching a DIFFERENT show than I did.
LAGERTHA never once said she didn’t care about Ragnar, nor did she say she hated him. She did not like that he did not tell her, no, but their conversation is wonderful and poignant and she was not rude to him. In fact, they both admitted that they had regrets, so no, there was not animosity there.
And I am sorry, but Ragnar did not treat Aslaug the way he did, unprovoked. She talked down to him, she punched him in the chest, she disrespected him, she ignored her responsibilities as a mother and fucked someone else. She deserved the way he treated her, because she treated him the same. It was toxic from both sides, and all the feminist oh Aslaug was abused people can come at me. She emotionally was abusive.
And finally, Ragnar was not a bad person and it was far more than a bruised ego and if you think so, then maybe you should rewatch the events of season 3 and 4, because it was for a hell of a lot more than a bruised ego over his useless, pathetic traitor bitch of a brother. He left for many reasons. He came back for many. But you know what? It made him flawed, not a bad person. He’s allowed to have flaws, and he did manage to make amends with people and he was not in a bad place with Bjorn when he left, or Ivar. And Ubbe did handle it fairly maturely.
If you read any of my follow up posts, you would see that I do understand why they felt abandoned and that I agree with them. But to think he is a bad person for it, or it was for only bruised ego is boggling to me, same as you deciding Lagertha hated him for it, because she didn’t. And I am sorry, but I cannot get behind such one dimensional opinions.
