Memories.

Pleasant memories weren't rare, Oya had plenty of them to remember fondly while watching the sunrise, plenty of good stories to tell around a fire at night.

It's not that the good memories weren't there, it's just that, more often than not, the bad ones were the loudest.

So Oya tells the good ones out loud. When abruptly woken up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat, they speak out loud. Reciting a memory, the first one that passes through their mind. Over and over, like a mantra, until their breathing evens out.

The one that comes up the most is that one morning shortly after their graduation, right before leaving the Spire for a while.

"Can we watch the sunrise before you leave, kid?" Cenric had asked, an echo of Oya's own plea when they left Tol Covere all those years ago.
