Well I'd done dance of other sorts for years and years, used to help teach beginners classes for ballet and hip hop even back in the day. I then also got into cosplay a lot and have been doing that for a few years. I had been fascinated by the art of burlesque for a long time but had been too self conscious to look into doing so myself. Eventually I moved to Vancouver where burlesque of all sorts of genres is hugely popular, I'd watched a bunch of shows as I had many friends involved. Eventually got offered by a friend starting up a troop to join in and do a show and I decided to go for it! My first performance was a big hit and I got tons of amazing feedback and have been addicted ever since, and my confidence has definitely grown since starting. I am now part of an official nerdlesque troop with a bunch of lovely ladies at B/URL/ESC and do shows for many different events around BC!

A lot of girls I know who do so don't have much dance experience, and come in all shapes and sizes. So I say whatever you feel is holding you back if you want to do so, just go for it! It's not a big thing in the area you live in? Make it a thing! If it's something you're passionate about then look into it, practice, and go for it.
