I am perhaps one of the strongest proponents of taxing the #cannabis industry, but the current rates are criminal. They're high now at the start when only small businesses are supposed to be allowed into the market, and they'll get beaten back after a few years of suffering, just in time for big-money players to come in and reap the profit for zero effort. For comparison here's the federal excise tax on a bottle of liquor. $1.32 for CA state tax ($6.60/gallon; correct my math please); around $3.46 total per bottle. Now, an 1/8th of bud, which traditionally is $40 but is closer to $50 these days. An eighth would get you nice and toasty a week or so, and if you did it in one night you'd... just pass out. If you drank 750ml of distilled spirits in one night, odds are reasonably high you could die from just that or the consequences of your actions after doing that. What's the state excise tax rate on that eighth? $7.50. For the one that makes you sleepy. Keep in mind we're not even talking federal excise taxes (yet). OH WAIT! Did you even know CITIES can tax too? And boy, do they! One city is adding an 18% GROSS INCOME TAX atop all commercial licensees. Who's this helping? We have to fix this, starting now. This is a criminal tax rate for an industry that has been punished enough. Go to www.CannaMediae.org and see #TheHoppyDoc for all your state-level personal cannabis protections, then the commercial paperwork document if you're trying to get licensed. Time to get to work. #420 #cannabis #marijuana #weed #weedstagram #auma #prop64 #maucrsa #theHoppyDoc #CannaMediae (at California)
