Heās taking a break for a while. Or at least for however long it takes S.H.I.E.L.D. to come looking for him for another job. So New York and all itās snow was left behind. Cutting a zig zag pattern across the country; until heād hit the west coast. Rolling into L.A. for the second time in his life.Ā
It breathed like any big city did. Had itās own life to it. Even if the speed was a little different, and the view sunnierāit was still a city and having lived in one most of his life; Bastian felt right at home with in it. Getting a room in a motel not too far from the beach; and kicking off his proverbial boots. And an hour later and heās armed like any Los Angelian. Long shorts and t-shirt. His back pack slung over his arm. Headed across the street to a patch of beach that isnāt quite so popular; to do a little snorkeling.
He makes a good haul. Several shells to add to the mantle back home. A few stones he just liked the look of. But when he comes up for the final time; thereās something carrying over the sound of the shifting water. Confused heās pulls his mask up, to rest on his head. Looking about andā¦oh.
A little girl standing on the edge of the water, looking less than happy about something. A woman besides her looking like sheās trying to keep her from diving head long into the surf. And his confusion only rises until he spots it. Drifting along the surface a yard or so away. A doll.Ā
A split second decision and heās going for it. Collecting it with little trouble and stowing it in his net bag before swimming his way back to shore. Wading his way out of the tide, and retrieving the lost toy from his bag. Holding it out to the little girl with asā¦good natured a smile as he can manage.Ā On principle heās actually terrible with kids, but he couldnāt just leave her doll out there to drown now could he? Waitā¦dolls canāt drown. Oh hell, never mind.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Thank you! I thought I was going to have to go in after it. Thank you so much!
His attention shifts to the blonde headed woman, that spoke. Grateful sheād said something because it keeps him from making an idiot out of himself. And thereās an easy shrug that pulls through his shoulders, a gaze that doesnāt quite look her in the eye; despite the lopsided grin on his face. And lazy words slip out of his mouth, with a rub of a finger against his nose.

Never mind about not making an idiot out of himself; because that? That is a horribly bad punā¦jokeā¦thing that is supposed to be funny and isnāt.
