Do You mind saying why you left vampire diaries fandom? I was super into it for years and then kinda aged out/stopped watching it so I haven't been keeping up at all. What happened that made you divorce it?
I was a book fan first. The last book I read was The Return: Nightfall. So when they announced that there was going to be a show, I was hyped and I loved the show. I wasn’t mad that they were doing changes with it because it was still pretty good.
The first reason was that I didn’t like how Bonnie was treated. She was one of my faves from the books (after Queen Meredith Sulez) and I liked her TV show counterpart too. I didn’t like she always had to do stuff for everyone and would end up getting the short end of the stick.
Then the Sire bond story line came. Every week I got more and more frustrated with Elena’s character being very different (which turned out to be the sire bond shit) but then she ended up choosing Damon all on her own which made no sense to me. Sure, maybe she was lusting after him, but the fact that she apparently was in love with him had me befuddled (Especially when all they ever did was have sex). To me, throughout the series, Damon was an asshole. I liked him at first because he was funny and could be a sweetheart, but then I started to dislike him. I remember one time he snapped Jeremy’s neck all because Elena rejected him. He would talk down to Caroline (back in season 1). It was just really annoying and what was even more annoying was there were a few Delena shippers who always went out of their way to defend him and complained about how there was too much Stelena and Damon should have a turn as if Elena was some toy instead of a person. So after that season finale where it ended with Stefan being left at the bottom of a lake, I didn’t tune in for the next season (I’m assuming he got out).
Also, and this was after I left the fandom, I didn’t like how some Delena shippers didn’t know the difference between fiction and reality and started attacking Nikki Reed (Ian Somerhalder’s wife) because he and Nina Dobrev weren’t together anymore and she put a wedge in their “precious ship”
Tltr: I didn’t like how the black female character was treated, I was a bitter Stelena shipper, and I got sick and tired of the fandom’s immature nonsense.
