In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag [ten] friends and make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.

1. "Stein und Flöte" (und das ist noch nicht alles) by Hans Bemmann - sorry, don't know if it has been published outside Germany and, if it has, by which name. The title means "Stone and Whistle (and that's not all)". The life-story of "Lauscher" (means "listener") in a fantastic fairytale for grown-ups.
2. "Nation" by Terry Pratchett - representing many more, nearly all, of the Discworld novels. Nation got me the most emotionally. I also love the novels about the Guards and the Witches especially.
3. "Onkel Mo" by Peter Hacks - the young daughter of a sailor is rescued from drowning by an orang utan, whom she calls "uncle Mo" and takes home with her. They have the loveliest, funniest weird everyday adventures together, and the pictures in the book are amazingly beautiful too.
4. "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green - you knooow!
5. "A Tiny Bit Marvellous" by Dawn French - her novel debut, and it's more than just a tiny bit marvellous :).
6. "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant - the story of the fathers of Israel, told from the viewpoint of the women in their lives, especially their sister Dinah, whose husband they have killed for political reason.
7. "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" by Douglas Adams and all else he has written - let me tell you my favourite story around reading them: Many years ago, I was waiting for the subway in Berlin at night, reading "So long and thanks for all the fish" for the umpteenth time. Next to me on the bench there was a guy who seemed to be asleep. Turned out he wasn't, for he reached into his pocket and drew out and showed me the exact same book, same edition and eveything! We chatted for the rest of our subway journey about what Douglas Adams' books meant to us. A few days later I learned that DNA had just died. To this day, I try to remember the date of this encounter, if it was on his dying day (it might be!).
9. The Harry Potter series. Come on, you know all about it anyway!
10. Practically every word Stephen Fry has ever written. My favourite Stephen moment was me telling him how happy he made me by writing a whole chapter about my favourite (our mutual favourite) band, The Bonzo Dog Band, in his autobiography.
