Hah, yeah, that’s usually what “Ancient History” seems to entail nowadays. That’s a very good essay to be giving students, though. I had historiography classes during my degree and although we didn’t have to write an essay about it, Herodotus certainly came up during the source literacy module. 

Aw heck, you’re so sweet! Take an entire little snippet for that:

That assumption was promptly proven false as another swipe of claws came seemingly out of nowhere, and Roman was sent flying backward. He groaned and tried to sit up, but fell over almost immediately, curling in on himself as the fresh slashes across his chest screamed in protest. 

He reached blindly for his sword, but just as his fingertips brushed the hilt, pain shot through his ankle and he was dragged backwards. With an undignified yelp, he was lifted straight up off the ground and dangled by the leg in front of the glaring griffin-sphinx’s face.

9:Dance AU & 70:Locked in a Room

Roman and Virgil are dance partners at their studio, and have a fun, healthy rivalry between them. They’re both exceptional dancers, and while they dance well together they both tend to prefer solo work and are constantly trying to one up the other. 

Then, they accidentally end up locked in the supply closet together, and Roman comes to learn about Virgil’s near debilitating claustrophobia. After doing everything in his power to keep Virgil’s growing panic at bay for the hour and a half they’re stuck there, Roman realizes that a lot of his assumptions about Virgil were wrong...and that he’s developed a bit of a soft spot for his partner that wasn’t there before.

2. What was the first scene you put down?

I will be basic and it was the entirety of the first chapter for Crescent and then the rough draft of the scene that would eventually become the last scene in Chapter 6. I wrote all of that down in one go, fueled by the inspiration one only gets for a fresh, promising story. I initially didn’t mean to make Virgil’s life as dark as it is at the start–but I started pulling from the life experiences of my co-workers when I worked at a fast-food place. 

And I had co-workers where all they did was work and sleep, where they worked minimum wage jobs and they had no hopes of doing anything else because they didn’t have the time or the opportunities. Where they hardly slept or ate because of their ridiculous work hours. In that way, Virgil’s story at the start hits hard for me. Because I know many people are in a similar situation and it saddens me.

As to the initial start of the whole AU, I saw this prompt by @writing-prompt-s and I was like, “Haha, wouldn’t be cool if Patton was the werewolf and Virgil was the human?”

I said, with not much motivation to actually write the thing since I was already juggling enough wips as it was. But then @iamsilentwolf slide into my inbox like “👀” and then I was motivated to start writing it because at least one person showed interest in it.

I then posted a snippet of what I was working on, and that post eXPLODED. I gained over a hundred followers in the course of two days and I had numerous people asking to be added to the tag list so I was like “Okay, I guess people really like werewolves” (which I found highly amusing because I never had a big interest in werewolves before this story lol)

It was also by that time I realized I’d bitten off more than I could chew, and there was no way I was going to finish the story in a realistic way within an one-shot. I switched my big bang project to Crescent and the rest is history.
