PromotionalĀ āappointment cardā issued by U.S. record label EastWest Records announcing the release of the first single from the 1994 album by British band The Dentists.
A clever promo riff on the bandās name, this card also served to provide all the information a radio DJ needed about the then-forthcoming album by The Dentists, Behind The Door I Keep The Universe.
I was very excited about this release, as Iād become a fan via a series of 7ā³ singles released by American labelsĀ Bus Stop, Independent Projects and Homestead in the previous few years. And then I strove to collect all of the bandās earlier output on UK indies in the 80s.
But this was to be The Dentistsā first proper album on an American label. In fact, it was (somewhat incongruously) the bandās major label debut, asĀ EastWest Records was simply an imprint owned by the Warner Music Group. And in the lead up to the album release, that major label funded a fancy triple 7ā³ box set featuring half the tracks from the record plus a couple of demos and covers.
While this brand of jangle-pop did not find too many adherents at my more punk-skewing radio station, I made sure to put āThis Is Not My Flagā into my own personal heavy rotation.
