It was a want -- no, a need to get to Mr. Riddle. Althea Porter needed to get to him, question him, something. All she wanted was to tap into that mind of his, have a discussion. Gage the kind of man he really was. Of course, Althea already had her...assumptions. But, she tried, honest to Merlin did she try, to not judge someone until she had had a proper, honest to good conversation with them. Yes, she usually failed, but no one could say she didn't try. 

This was her motive in trying to run after him, chase his tail right after that speech of his. But, unfortunately, it was to no avail. Once again, she missed a golden opportunity, a chance at talking with the great Tom Riddle. It was almost cruel how she had practically stalked his campaign trail all summer, yet, he had so unexpectedly arrived at her school. If she had known, she would have definitely been waiting for him in the back of the Great Hall. Figures. 

Finally, with her metaphorical tail between her legs, Althea stalked back to the Great Hall, knowing full well a bunch of first years needed assistance and guidance that Althea was obliged to give them. Her legs practically scraped against the castle floor, her head down, when she heard a riiiip!
