Previous Parts: (Part I) Entry I, Entry 2, Entry 3 ~ Being a Prophet of "The Lord" is not all roses and teacups. In all actuality, it isn't roses and teacups at all. Like seriously, Kevin has not seen a teacup or rose moment during this entire debacle.Ā Kevin really should hate the Winchesters by now.Ā
Actually for a little bit there he totally hated them. Like so fucking much you couldn't even begin to understand.Ā C'mon! His mom was dead, or worse, a demon, and he was getting his ass handed to him on a daily bases from what ever hell fried flavor of the month decided it was their turn at bat.Ā So yeah, hatred, Kevin had it.Ā But thanks to Sam and Dean Kevin also had a family again.Ā Okay, so it was kind of Sam and Dean's fault that Kevin had lost his original family, but hey, it was also God's fault too, so really what can ya do?Ā They didn't leave him behind, that was the important part. They could've dropped him the second Sam decided not to close the gates. They could have kicked him out of the bunker and said "figure it out kid", but they didn't.Ā Because they were a family now.Ā Kevin figured he was pretty much an honorary Winchester now, and he didn't even have to die or go to Hell to be one!Ā It was this sense of family, the sense of brothers in arms, that made Kevin stand tall next to Sam Winchester as he confronted his older brother.Ā Kevin and Sam had a plan. It was an awesome. A plan that involved graphs and pie charts and even, in one desperate idea, actual pie.Ā They were going to broach the subject in a timely and sensitive manner that would allow their emotionally stunted brother to open up in a speedy, but heathy way.Ā It was a simple and swift 35 day process that they had perfectly calculated in the secrecy of the night when both of them (and Crowley the bastard) had consumed a few too many cups of coffee. They would start with casual mentions and build up to talking about their own personal feelings. They'd leave hints and ideas around the bunker where they'd be sure Dean would find them.Ā It was the perfect plan.Ā Imagine the look on their faces when their ragged hero broke down into a worried mess at breakfast on only the 3rd day of Operation: Give Dean Feels.Ā "Sammy, Kev, I'm going outta my mind worrying about Cas," Dean croaked over his cup of coffee, his eyes obviously red from crying.Ā Okay Kevin so did not see that one coming.Ā "Dean-" Sam started, completely and utterly in shock. He looked over to Kevin, his eyes wide with panic. This was- this went against all of their calculations! Dean was supposed to be emotionally stunted for at least 32 more days before he broke down into a sobbing mess in his little brothers waiting arms. Sam was sure he was finally going to be the one with his head on straight, the emotionally and mentally stable one there to offer a shoulder to cry on, and Kevin was going to be there for moral and emotional support.Ā
They had a plan god damnit! Leave to Dean to be the one to screw that all up. Of course! Of course when the two screw ups of the universe finally have a full proof plan a head of them, that would be the time that Dean "no chick flick moments" would have his overdue melt down.Ā "What if something happened to him guys? What if- oh fuck- what if he fell and he landed in the ocean? What if this is God's punishment for the angels being dicks all this time? What if God took him Sammy?" Dean was working himself into a shrill panic. Kevin had never seen this side of Dean before.Ā By the look on Sam's face, neither had he.Ā "What if God took him? It's not fair Sam, he can't have him! Cas- Cas is my angel. He's mine," Dean's voice broke suddenly.Ā "Dean, he's- I-" Sam tried to get out as Kevin looked on in horror and a small amount of morbid curiosity.Ā So much for Sam and Kevin's carefully calculated plan.Ā "Guys we just really need to fucking find my angel okay?" Dean gruffed, looking sullenly into his coffee. Okay so Sam and Kevin weren't as prepared for Dean's break down as they thought they were. Can you blame them though? Dean usually had the emotional depth of a thimble, and though it wasn't the sobbing tragedy that they had been trying to build up to, it was certainly deeper than Dean tended to get.Ā And this was the first time Kevin had ever heard Dean call Cas his angel.Ā "Pack up the impala," Sam said suddenly, banging his giant man hand on the bunker's kitchen table.Ā Okay seriously? They had talked about this! Kevin was still really fucking jumpy.Ā "What the fu-" "I'm serious Dean, pack up the impala, were going angel hunting."Ā "Sammy we can't just up and leave!" Dean groaned, motioning for his Goliath of a brother to sit down, seemingly shaking off the pure panic he had just let lose, "you're in recovery and I wouldn't even know where to look."Ā "Don't give me that recovery bullshit, Dean. I'm fine. I'm probably healthier than you Mr. "Eat my feelings". Cas is, he's our friend, he's your angel, and we gotta find him."Ā "Sam's right Dean, we've gotta find him. He's family," Kevin said quietly.Ā "You don't think I know that?! You don't think that this isn't killing me?! Anything that's happened to him, any way that he might be hurt or lost is my god damned fault? Because it is. It's completely my fault, and I failed him. I failed him him just like I fail every other god forsaken thing I care about!" Dean fumed, resorting back to the Dean that they both knew and loved.Ā The guilt ridden hard ass.Ā "So yeah this kills, it's tearing up Inside, almost as much as Hell did, but I have a responsibility," Dean growled, leaning forward across the table, "You. You Sam, you're my responsibility. You almost died out there in that church and I wouldn't be able to deal with that. There ain't no me if there ain't no you Sammy. I've made a lot of mistakes, hell Sam. I almost let an angel take over your body, just to keep you alive, but one mistake I can't make is letting you out there just to get hurt again. I won't do it to you and I won't do it to Kevin." "De-" Sam started, but Kevin just couldn't sit there and listen to this anymore.Ā "You listen to me Dean Winchester, and you listen good. Your brother and I, we aren't children. Sam helped stop the apocalypse! I've been held captive by the king of Hell! If we tell you that were okay then you better pony up and listen because I can tell you right now if you let this go, if you give up on Cas, it will be the biggest mistake of your entire life. I won't forgive you, Sam won't forgive you, but worst of all? You'll never be able to forgive yourself," Kevin said, growing louder with every word until is was nearly screaming.Ā "Now listen to your giant of a brother and get the damn impala packed, because this little band of fuckery is going out and finding us a damn angel."Ā "I-" Dean began, completely flabbergasted, "I- okay." Kevin nodded, his chest heaving. Pulling his shoulders up, Kevin turned to go to his room and pack.Ā "Hey Kev," Dean called out softly. Kevin turned to him, his guard up and ready for a fight.Ā "Your mom would be damn proud of you son," the older Winchester said gruffly, and then pulled himself up, cuffing Sam on the shoulder, and went to pack.Ā And if Kevin had to blink a little harder to get rid of the tears trying to fall, well no one said anything out it.Ā
