"Please, remind me - Why did I agree on doing this?” The witch whined as the two of them continued to make their way through the woods. Amelia loved nature, but she started to feel like she was not made for hiking. It would have been wonderful to lay down and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the birds and the other animals that lived here, but Shawn kept dragging her along and it made her feel pouty. “I know you said the sight would be worth it, but are you sure that we’re still following the right path?”
And even if she did not exactly show it, that was something she admired about Shawn. There was no way on earth that she could find her way around the forest the same way he did! So maybe it was time to stop pouting and trust him... It would be a shame to miss out on it, if the sight was as wonderful as he promised it would be.

“The princess one!” Five year old bright eyed Kennedy exclaimed. “I want the princess one.” She pointed to her little book shelf when she was all tucked into bed. She knew she needed to keep her voice down, but she was just so excited. She squealed a little when Shawn picked the right book. Shawn sat on Kennedy’s bed as she moved to make more room for him. She held her teddy in hand as he started to speak. Just as she was about to drift off to sleep, their parents started to yell. Kennedy’s eyes opened to look at Shawn. He sighed and moved to have her curl into him. He started to stroke her hair, like he did every night. It took awhile, but Kennedy finally was able to fall asleep.

“Do we really have to spend Christmas with them?”
“That was what I said earlier and you said ‘But Ken, we really should’. You can’t just back out when we are standing on the porch!” She huffed out. “I don’t want to be here, and personally I would be fine not talking to them as they fight and ruin this great holiday.” She hummed when a idea popped in her head.
The front door opened. Kennedy looked at Shawn before walking inside her childhood home. Her parents seemed fine for a moment before they were making snarky side comments. Kennedy smirked a bit before pulling her parents one by one to the side and out of Shawn’s view to compel them to stop fighting and all the troubles aside for the night.
Throughout the night, it felt like such a welcoming family. Something the vampire always wanted while growing up.
