Kai/Nya Rant
I am far from the worlds biggest Kai fan. The guy is cool, fine, has some good lines and would kill for his family. He’s great. I just don’t like him quite as much as I love the rest of the boys. HOWEVER….
*clambers up to a high place to yell*
I will NEVER shut up about Kai raising (and his relationship with) Nya. This boy. This aggressive, handsome, and could be wildly popular boy gave up EVERYTHING to raise his little sister after their parents were taken. I was having this conversation with my sister tonight, (she isn’t a member of the Ninjago fandom, but occasionally I can get her to watch an episode, so she does know what is going on, and I was talking about (what else) the season 8 finale, and particularly right before the epic rain fight and consequently our Ninjago hearts shattering. This man, just offered up his power, the thing I think you could argue, is the most important aspect of his identity to save Lloyds life. The green bean lives. Yay , miracle, fantastic. Moving on. My point is: that scene of Kai and Nya is soooooo hugely important. n: “at least we have our powers”
k: “but what if it isn’t enough”
N: “it always is.”
K: But what if it isn’t, what then ?” N: “Ninja never quit.” K: “Ninja don’t last forever”
SOMETIME LATER THST SAME NIGHT in Nya’s understanding, he is DEAD. The last thing he told his baby sister, whom he raised, protected, and always had to be strong for, was that he was afraid of not lasting forever. That in the face of this threat, he felt inadequate to protect her or the realm. oh. My. Heart.
The show doesn’t show Nyas reaction to the Collusus crushing the Bounty. But she saw it. She had to have seen in. Do you think the last time she sat with her brother came to mind? They didn’t even get to say goodbye, the earthquake from the Collosus took that away too. When she saw the ship crushed, she lost her older brothers in spirit in Cole and Zane, her yang in Jay, and nearly every other pivotal role and mentor in her life in Kai taken away from her.
I think you could argue s9 wasn’t violent enough to show the agony that the remaining ninja team had to go through.
