        HEARING COLM ADMIT it sends a wave of shock through jesper.  his father had never been the most loquacious of people — his presence in jesper’s life had always been marked by the feeling of steady, warm hands on his shoulders, or squeezing him tight in a comforting hug.  but never had he been a supplicant voice in jesper’s head.

     “ ma’s ghost? ”  he almost doesn’t want to say it, as if afraid that acknowledging this will scare colm off into silence again.  but he wants to hear this.  he wants to hear his father say something, anything, about his own grief.  maybe if they spoke about it — aditi’s ghost, hovering over them both all this time, could settle or vanish.  anything.  he’d take anything.  “ i wondered why you never . . . why you never remarried. ”

     here comes the hard part.  here comes the part that puts a lump in his throat.

It had become entirely different when Ezio fell unconscious the first time and did not wake even an hour or so later, when patched up. He had tried not to worry too much, telling himself that the man was just exhausted and it was sleep catching up with him. Yet he could not shake the feeling that something was deeply wrong.

The relief that washed over him seeing those eyes open died as soon as the artist caught sight of the emotion within them. Confusion. Fear. Recognition was not there, especially from how they tensed at his touch to their well shoulder. A silent prayer left his lips as they asked him that, retreating a little in an awkward attempt to give them space.

Please let this be a temporary effect. Please God.

To treat them like a stranger. After a moment, his warm and charming smile returned as he sat down again on his stool by their bedside. As if he was not dying inside.

Penelope isn’t certain Ithaca will ever stop feeling new. She’s found more than ever that it has a newfound kind of charm to it, something wonderful that makes her feel more  alive than she thinks she’s ever felt. It’s nice here. She can see herself growing old here with Odysseus. 

She wakes up and admires the branches above them. Their bed makes her feel like she’s sleeping in some kind of dream, but it makes her smile now. She stretches, stifling a yawn with her hand, and rolls onto her side to look at Odysseus.

nikolai  had  only  known  kaz  for  a  short  period  of  time,  but  it  felt  like  the  boy  was  both  easy  and  impossible  to  read.  looking  at  kaz,  it  seemed  like  there  was  always  something  running  on  in  his  head,  a  constant  motion.  judging  by  the  company  that  he  kept  and  the  words  leaving  his  mouth,  nikolai  could  only  imagine  the  devious  plans  running  through  that  mind  of  his.  though  in  some  ways,  nikolai  could  relate  --  he  was  always  thinking,  always  predicting  his  next  move.  there  was  always  something  going  on  in  ravka,  and  nikolai,  even  with  his  time  away  from  the  palace,  was  never  able  to  stop  those  gears  in  his  mind  from  turning.  he  could  forget  for  a  brief  moment  as  sturmhond,  choose  to  forget  his  responsibilities,  but  they  still  came  crawling  back  into  his  mind.

“ ---------    i  don’t  know,  you  tell  me. ”  the  threats  facing  the  both  of  them  felt  endless,  and  as  king,  looking  at  kaz,  he  knew  that  at  the  end  of  the  day,  nikolai  needed  his  help.  “ we  can  help  each  other.  we’ve  helped  each  other  before. ”  a  beat.  “ it  may  not  seem  important  to  you  now,  but  anything  that  happens  is  going  to  affect  trade  here  in  ketterdam,  you  have  to  know  that.  people’s  pockets  are  as  deep  as  their  securities  and  their  stocks.  and  any  information  you  can  get  me  will  save  us  both. ”  looking  at  the  thief  in  front  of  him,  nikolai  pursed  his  lips  for  a  moment,  taking  a  step  or  two  in  deep  thought.  “ i  know  that  your  roots  in  this  city  have  to  run  deep.  unrest  in  any  country  is  going  to  cause  tremors  for  you  here. ”  stopping,  he  once  again  looked  at  kaz.  “ if  you  help  me,  i’m  sure  you’ll  never  see  a  lack  of  kruge  again  in  your  life.

He scratched the back of his head and looked over his shoulder before scanning the small coffee shop then looking back to Billy. What the other was holding was some sort of power source, alien tech for sure but Peter didn’t know what it went to, what it was meant to power.
