Standing next to a blasting speaker and being physically assaulted by the overwhelming power of rock and roll is one of my favorite feelings in life. Knowing that my sense of hearing has dropped a couple notches as I swim through an underwater world the next day is not. I have been to many very loud shows, and where this path is taking me, I will be going to many, many more. I’d rather not be deaf by the time I’m 40, but in the meantime, I’d like to be able to hear the bands I paid to see (or am getting paid to photograph 🤞). So - how do I get the best of both worlds? After a little research, I found @eargasmearplugs. They use an attenuation filter to evenly lower the volume of incoming sound while maintaining the sonic profile of the music. In other words, stuff doesn’t get all muffled, like what happens with foam plugs. I tried them out in a conversational environment today and they seem to work well with voices. Tomorrow, I shoot another show, and it’s a big one; sure to put these babies to the test. Stay tuned for the update on these plugs and much more in the next few days!
