Scapolites have always been guards, but before they became the virtually faceless, mindless sentries of Era 2, they had quite the reputation!

During Era 1, long before the war, the Scapolites were viewed as some of the most friendly Gems on Homeworld. Always the first to strike conversation, spread jovial gossip and joke about. In many ways, though the war hardened her, the Crystal Gem Scapolite (1KH) retains many of these traits.

They also maintained a strong family bond, with Scapolite Prime and her Gold Pearl looking after what had lovingly been dubbed the Famolite. Scapolite Prime was a fairly care free Matron once, showing her Gems how to love and protect every Gem, regardless of type or status. Scapolite 1KH was her top Gem, the most powerful and skillful, but also the one with the biggest heart.

Guitar music is the motif for the Scapolites, and they all know a song Prime would sing to them in the barracks.

That all fell apart however, when the war began. When Scapolite left the group, it left Prime heartbroken. Her most powerful child had turned her back on all of them with disastrous consequences.

Seeing what so much freedom had done to the Scapolites, birthing one of the high ranking Crystal Gems into it’s number, White Diamond had every Scapolite both new and old mentally conditioned, the helmets they wear blasting mind controlling sounds into their heads twenty four/seven. She made sure Scapolite Prime and Gold Pearl knew this, as a warning against any Matron’s defiance.

The once jovial Matron has now become a depressed and hopeless Gem yearning for days gone by. With the revelation that Scapolite 1KH escaped and made it back to Homeworld, she found a small ray of hope. That fleeting hope saw her through numerous beatings and torture at the hands of the Quartz soldiers. But she remains hopeful her Scapolite’s salvation will come one day.

Side note, while the records were officially erased from Homeworld and only Prime and Gold Pearl remember, there does exist a Scapolite Zero, a progenitor Scapolite, the very first created. She oversaw much of the early combat training for the Scapolites, but she vanished during the early outbreak of the war. According to Scapolite Prime, she’s merely a legend. Of course, Scapolite Prime isn’t unaccustomed to telling lies...

(I know this isn’t a franchise most of you are aware of but hear me out...)

Welcome to the Officer’s Academy of the Garreg Mach Monastery. I am Winema Adamas Diamantis, house leader of the White Serpents. Our students hail from the Luster Conglomerate, so we have a varied mix of students from far and wide, all from different social classes. Allow me to tell you about them. 

Kimberly, having been orphaned at birth, was taken in by the Diamantis family. For many years now she has been my faithful retainer, confidante and close friend. Don’t let that smile fool you however, her prowess with a bow rivals Luster’s best. (Kimberlite)

Rina may not be of noble birth, but her hard work and determination put her leagues above her peers. I hand picked her personally, a decision I know I will not regret. While she may be eager to please, she has the skills to back it up. In a tight situation, she’s the best you could ask for. ( @a-certain-rubellite )

Now Snow, she’s someone who I can rely on to get the job done. She is also one of the White Serpent’s most valued members, both as an empathetic listener and has... Let’s just say, certain abilities that make her invaluable on the battlefield. I could never ask for someone so loyal. ( @singer-snowflake ) 

Samantha’s inquisitive mind makes her the ideal student, and I’m modeling her into the perfect tactician. She may not be much of a fighter, but I refuse to let a mind like her’s go to waste slogging it out on a field. I make it a personal mission of mine to see that mind nurtured. ( @theassistantgems )

Finally we have Star, the healer of the group. She has enough heart and soul for the entire White Serpent house, and enough love to make us all feel like we can overcome anything. A lover of all things cute and sweet, I make sure her child like glee doesn’t waver. She shows us all the best we could be. ( @blackstardiopside )

“Come, gather round Gems! What I have here will astound and amaze!” Hematite called to the Gems around his stall. The onlookers were a collection of various Gem types, all watching the Off Color with intrigue. 

Hematite held up a metal suitcase with thick locks on it’s front. “What I have in this case are treasures from the furthest reaches of the galaxy, and, for a price, they can all be yours!” Sensing the curiosity build, he placed the container on the counter and slowly and dramatically opened it. 

“Behold!” He pulled out a complex looking glass device which curved around a perspex orb in the center, colors bending round the glass in a rainbow. “From the planet Arrakis, said to produce the vapor of the gods!” He then pulled out a gauntlet. “And this, from the weapons masters of Korani, said to increase the arm strength of the wearer one hundred fold!” 

“But the prize of my collection... A mysterious idol from a far flung world, marvel at it’s mystery!” He proclaimed as he held aloft a rubber duck, pressing it to cause a squeak, which caused a chorus of gasps from the Gems. 

“I-I didn’t think you noticed….” Calcite really hadn’t thought that Pink would notice how she would watch her when she thought she wasn’t looking, but there was no denying it now that she was confronting her. Not that she really wanted to. Pink Scapolite was just so special to her and she had wanted her to know that for some time now and this was as good a time as any.

“I won’t deny it and I’m sorry if it bothered you. I just….. I really care about you and that’s why I look at you that way. I know it’s probably wrong, but I can’t help it. You make me feel things I can’t even describe… Well, now you know. Are you going to….do anything? I understand if you’d rather not spend time with me and risk anything happening….”

It was late during what could be considered night on Homeworld and Calcite didn’t expect anyone to be coming to her lab, especially not when her most frequent visitor was currently off planet. This was one of her Diamond’s gems so there was no hesitation at all for her to welcome her inside.

“Come in. Honestly.... I was having a bit of trouble sleeping myself....”

She couldn’t help but to worry about her Diamond more than a little. Pink was going to be all alone in her moon base with only her new Pearl for company and she didn’t make her half as happy as the one White had taken from her. This was why she was still in her lab. The quarters Pink had her pebbles construct were simply making Calcite miss her that much more.

Being called cute by gems other than her Diamond was not something Calcite was accustomed to at all and she stared at the scapolite for a moment, not quite sure what to make of it besides that it was Pink’s honest opinion of her. “That’s probably because of how serious my work is. You too can be rather cute when you’re working on something.”
