yooo, so I'm a freshman in high school but my parents want me to start thinking about uni/college now. I really want to go to a uni out of the country that I live in (somewhere in central Europe), like somewhere in the UK or US. But we don't have enough money, I won't be able to take student loans AND I'll have to pay a higher price because I'm not an EU citizen, plus all the scholarships are partial and I still won't be able to pay everything. Any advice?
Hey! I don’t have a ton of great advice when it comes to financial things; I’ve been very fortunate in that my school provides need-based financial aid and that between their money and my parents, I’ve been fairly debt free. If anyone else has advice, please reblog/comment below to help!
I definitely don’t know much about UK schools, but I can say that there are some US schools that have need-based financial aid (meaning they give you money after taking into account how much money your parents make, other siblings in college, etc.) and are also need-blind in admission, even for international students (meaning they don’t look at how much financial aid you’ll need when making their decision to admit you). As well, since you have the foresight to start thinking about this early, maybe try to start saving up now? Money you get from relatives for holidays/birthdays, getting a part time job when you’re old enough, tutoring people now (tutoring can be especially lucrative!), and other things like that.
I’m sure there’s more advice from other people, these are just a few ideas/things I would consider. A blog called @financiallymint messaged me a while back; maybe she’ll have some advice too? Hope this was helpful, even if just a little!
