The sun had vanished some time ago now and the customers had all but stopped filtering in out of the small Cafe. In Leblanc's standards, it had been a busy day.
As Kaito carefully began to wipe down the counter with a damp towel he wondered what Sakura would have done without him around. Well, the Chief had to get by all this time before he had even come here somehow after all. So perhaps his presence was just more convenient.
“What a real busy day! I’m tired just from watching you.” Morgana mewed in a seat at the end of the bar.
The boy sighed as he threw the towel over his shoulder and walked to the sink in the back to wash his hands. “I could use a cup of coffee myself.” He muttered under his breath.
“Well, I’d say the day is just about done so you’re free to do just that. And I’m going to head home.” A gruff older voice chimed in followed by the folding sound of a newspaper. “Close up the shop, will you? I’ll get the sign on my way out.” Nothing ever seemed to get by the Chief, did it?
Yet no sooner had Sakura finished speaking did the small bell of the front door opening chime. “Oh, well. I was just about to close up shop but- aw well I guess you’ll be our last customer for the evening. Okinami you take care of it and then do as you will.”
Kaito’s head turned but almost immediately turned back around to the sink. Really? He clutched his hands tightly beneath the water. Goro Akechi was the last customer?
Sure he made his stops but this late? It gave Kaito a very unsettled feeling. He glanced towards his cat who was peering at him before taking a sitting position on the chair.
“Be with you in just a minute,” Kaito spoke still facing the sink, mindlessly scrubbing his hands as he contemplated. But the only real natural thing to do was just to do what he always did. Just put on the face and run with it.
Kaito turned off the sink, giving his hands a shake in the air and then wiped them on his apron as he turned around. “Oh, the Prince Detective stopped by for his coffee again I see. What can I get you today?” he asked politely stepping back in front of the bar where Akechi had taken his seat as was usual.
