THE PELLYS HAIL JAKE ALBUM REVIEW

   Originating from Atlanta, Georgia grows a surf pop band called The Pellys. With heavy amounts of unplugged power pop and feedback sounds, they are definitely not one to miss.

   Described as “surfy dream pop” their most recent release Hail Jake consists of five songs with lyrics that mix a carefree attitude with messy romantics. Similar to The Orwells, Twin Peaks, and Christopher Owens, The Pellys deliver a sloppy, carefree, middle finger vibe with a unique Pelly pop twist.

  Opening the EP with the song “Shiny Things”The Pellys introduce the comforting sounds of guitar feedback and lyrical nostalgia for memory-scapes left behind. Later in on the EP, the song “Celestina” reminds me of something that serves well as the backing track of an 80’s music video full of models with sharp Germanic cheek bones. However, the mood is softened by a warm, dream-like tone. The Pellys deliver a fresh taste of surf rock by laying down this wonderful EP that is a unified piece of art.
