Paul Winterton - journalist, novelist and founding member of the Crime Writers' Association - wrote under a variety of pseudonyms, including Andrew Garve. The Megstone Plot was first published in 1956 (this edition from Pan dates from 1958), and was the basis for a film adaptation under the title A Touch of Larceny in 1959, starring James Mason. The script, adapted by Ivan Foxwell, was BAFTA nominated; The New York Times declared it "droll, if not devastating".
