64: Would it be hard to kiss the last person you kissed? 30: Whatโs irritating you right now?
Evangeline rolled over, facing away from Iris. Her foot still throbbed quietly, her heartbeat playing through her ears like a set of drums at the back of an empty bar. The pain still certainly wasnโt there, but she could feel her blood pumping through her body. She hoped the injury had closed up enough at least to stop bleeding at this point. Properly bandaged, it shouldnโt be too much of a problem, but the last thing Eva wanted was to get blood in Irisโ bed. This would be...difficult. Why had she asked to share a bed with Iris, again? Of all people to sleep next to, of course it was the woman Evangeline was still hung up on. The one she was incredibly attracted to. Who, very wisely, had declared that they shouldnโt get too close to each other. It was a bit torturous, but it was most certainly the right idea. Iris needed things to work out with Silke. Eva needed to let that happen. And then...then she heard something. Iris asked her...if it would be hard for her to kiss the last person she had kissed. Evangelineโs mind went blank for a moment. Why would Iris ask her a question like that?
โUm...well...uhโฆโ Eva could only stutter as a response. Of course it would be hard! Or would it? The viera turned again, her red hair shifting in curls, stark against the pitch black sheets of Irisโ bed. Almost immediately she found herself face to face with a pair of deep, violet eyes. The eyes that pulled her in back in the cathedral...which now seemed like so long ago. Iris was so close to her...and yet millions of miles away at the same time. Evangeline tried to gather her thoughts, to break the silence between them, to answer the expectant look that decorated Irisโ pale face.
โOf...of course it would be hard. So much has happened...so many emotions...so much hurt...most of it self inflicted, to be honest. Knowing that it would hurt Silke...knowing that Iโm not the one you truly want...that would make it hard.โ Despite herself, Evangeline thought to touch Iris, to brush her wild tangle of black hair from her face. But she stopped herself, her hand hovering mid-air for a moment before she retracted it back under the covers.
โAt the same time...it would be so...so easy. To let it all fall away. To be selfish. To ignore the consequences.โ She drew her face slightly closer to Iris.
โBut i probably...shouldnโt...do that. I should probably just...go to sleep.โ Evangelineโs voice grew quieter as she spoke, but her eyes never left the brilliant, almost glowing lakes of purple that stared back at her. Eva thought to close her eyes, to look away, but she couldnโt. Not yet.
