Thinking of nights watching films in your garage.

Sitting under the climbing frame in the park, getting drunk

In your garden (at least, you lot got

Drunk, that was never my thing),

Watching the sun set over the hills from the road.

Thinking of nights we spent in the town,

Bowling and darts, taking sips of each other's cocktails,

Then photoshoots in the car park. It may

have been seedy and dark,

But it was fun.

Thinking of evenings spent squashed on your sofa.

At least seven people crammed into three seats -

Our legs all went dead by the end of the night,

But to be there with you it was worth it.

Thinking of afternoons skating with you,

Down by the Res, in the new estate, and sometimes

Sneaking into the playpark when there were

No kids about.

Thinking of memories, some more lost than others,

And wishing we could stay that way forever.

People grow up and move on, it was always inevitable,

But it hurts, sometimes, when I think about how

We were so happy, so young, and now

Sun-kissed conversations

I recorded on my phone.

We were sat in your back garden,

Though we weren’t quite alone.

King Princess in the background, an afternoon with friends

The neighbour’s lawnmower

Made quite the noise

From just beyond the fence

Charlotte wasn’t there yet –

was she still in the canoe?

We joked she’d ride it straight in here,

And bring booze with her too.

Gracie’s running late, but

Her name’s on all our lips.

How she and Ellie whacked their noses

And how they almost kissed,

That one time in the mosh pit,

With Charlotte by her side,

Or the time with Flo and Edie,

Huddled underneath the slide.

And it hits me like a freight train

That these days are gone –

Those lazy nights of laughter,

Of bubbles in the garden,

A home I never thought I’d have to miss.

Cause I never truly thought it would be gone.

The twins provided beers –

we’d not seen Moretti then

which is funny now, since we’ve both served

that drink again and again.

They’re trying to find your wifi

And there’s lots of talk of snogging

Of drunken nights, and fairy lights,

And my failed attempts at blogging.

A horror story of a boy

Who couldn’t kiss for shit,

And Nell’s bright laugh, and Robyn’s gasp

When she’s pulled on the grass to sit.

And it hits me like a freight train
