how much it matters to you.

it’d taken an embarrassingly long while for marie to realize something was amiss. already exhausted from the flight & extra traveling earlier in the day, and further dulled by the three glasses of rosé she’d had with dinner after checking in, the realization that her purse was no longer nestled against her hip, nor anywhere in sight within her suite struck her like a punch. mama & thomas had already returned to their own suite quite some time ago; her brothers had gone their separate ways as they’d finished up their dinner & drinks. she all but flew from her room in a panic and headed for the elevator after texting them all to ask about it, hissing and mumbling a soft merde under her breath as she prodded at the down button on the panel. she hardly waited a full thirty seconds before jabbing it again. and then a third time.
when the doors finally slid open with a quiet chirp, she stomped in, smacked the button for the floor the restaurant they’d eaten at was on, and set about drumming her nails on her crossed arms impatiently. it was late — likely too late for the restaurant to still be open. she chewed at her lip with a frustrated noise, crowding closer to the door as the lift slowed. she gave very little thought to anyone waiting on the other side of the doors; charging out headfirst and making her way back to the cafe with a determined jog. and, as she’d feared, it was empty. shuttered, dark, devoid of life. panic burnt up her throat as she mumbled to herself in a mix of frustrated expletives and nervous admonishments; whipping around, she stood in front of the closed off entrance and cast a glance down both ends of the hall. the only other person that seemed to be wandering this part of the resort at this hour was to her left and a ways down, but seemed to be uniformed, from what she could make out — so, in similar fashion to how she’d run to the restaurant, she dashed to them, hardly even giving them the chance to turn and face her before she started her panicked tirade.
“ do you work here ? ” and then, immediately after spying the badge and name tag, still barely giving them half a breath to speak: “ okay, this is perfect actually — well, not perfect perfect, but it’s close enough & i need your help: i lost my purse earlier today, and while i can assure you i’m usually far more careful with my things, i need it back like, right now; it’s a blush dior with a shoulder strap. i’d say it’s about this big. ” she gave an approximate measurement with her hands as she spoke, then immediately clasped them in front of herself and began twisting at one of her rings as she continued. “ my wallet is in there, too. along with a few other things. i was there earlier for dinner, ” at that she cocked her head back to indicate the cafe. “ i think i might’ve left it behind, or it got knocked off the seat. is there any way you can just.. let me in so I can check ? or- has it been called in ? ”
